Bill give us something new to discuss.

Who do you think the flyers wil pursue in free agency at forward and D? Do you think they get a vet goalie?

Excluding chabot and chycrun, who do you see as a possible trade target.

thanks.....

That game 7 was great. I was still a grad student at U of Hawaii -- watched it in the campus cafe/bar. Hijacked the TV. Some old ex-prof or whatever kept telling me to pipe down. Bartender felt compelled to side with Prof Curmudgeon. I. Did. Not. Care. That was a great day.

I wonder if Brady Tkachuk is available.

We speak frankly about the team's power play woes and the plan to form a collaborative intra-organization group of advisors to work this summer in conjunction with Rocky Thompson (neither Jason nor I are particularly optimistic about that alone making a big difference in the bottom line).

This really started with Fletcher. Nobody can make a decision without everyone being consulted. Resulting in no one really being accountable. It's now throughout the entire organization.

Going forward if it doesn't work it won't be because Rocky is bad at coaching the PP and should go. It could be something that Sharp had them try or LeClair was on board with a decision so it's not Rocky's fault.

Listening to peoples opinions when you want it or need it is one thing. Making an organizational structure that's essentially flat is just trying to avoid being blamed for something.

Well, I know of some people in hockey ops who are believers in Peyton Krebs, so that one wouldn't surprise me.

I don't see a Brady Tkachuk trade as realistic but if Ottawa were to entertain a thought of seeing what's out there before his NMC kicks in come 2025, I think the Flyers might be among the teams inquiring. I wouldn't expect it come to fruition, but they'll do due diligence if the possibility is even out there.

Free agent wise, they're looking along the same lines as last summer -- prove-it-types like where Poehling was a year ago. They aren't going to go over the Jake DeBrusk types.

They won't sign a FA goalie.

Flyers wouldn't take a shot at 3rd tier free agents that would require long term deals that would probably seek 4-5 million per or above....

That's how I take it, but not sure what he meant. Meaning just added depth. I would hope the Flyers stay FAR away from any FA looking for more than 2 years.

If Rocky wasn't picking peoples brains the last 2 years, as he obviously needed the help, he should be fired. If Rocky was picking peoples brains and it still didn't work out, he should be fired.

This announcement is purely about providing cover for Rocky to come back for year 3 because the Flyers need to set more PP futility records and it needs to not be anyone's fault so nobody get's fired.

Also today in Flyers history, they defeated the Pens 5-1 to win their first round series 4 games to 2 back in 2012. They haven't won a playoff series since, apart from that one against Montreal in the bubble.

Looks like the Flyers are going to buy out Atkinson, given he seemed to make it clear he believes he still belongs in the top 9 of the forward group. If the Flyers do buy Atkinson out, and given Briere said Johansen is not playing for the Flyers, the Flyers will have this much in dead cap space and LTIR:

LTIR (Ellis, Johansen): $10.25M
Buried Penalty (Peterson): $3.85M
Dead Cap (Hayes, Deangelo): $5.2M + $1.75M (Atkinson)

So about $21M of cap tied up, or 23% of the team cap space. All the more imperative the Flyers promote players from within, even if it means they suck for another year.

I agree with Briere that expecting this team to have a 25% Powerplay is unrealistic, but having a league average Powerplay with these players should be a no brainer. Rocky has had two full seasons to fix this and has failed. Even San Jose has a good powerplay and I know the Flyers have more talent than San Jose. At this point, if real discussions are had this off-season, the Flyers should be hiring a new offensive assistant coach. There is really nothing to discuss! The Flyers power play Sucks, it's the worst in the league for two years straight. The players need a new voice.

Bill,

I know a lot seem to think the plan is to extend Konecny. I don't believe they said anything at the presser of that being in works or something they plan to do?

Could they maybe look to put him out there and see what a return would be over extending him to a large cap for 8 years?

Brink and Lycksell should be playing bigger roles this year, and maybe the Flyers get a surprise in training camp. Maybe Rizzo shows he is ready for at least a limited role, or you give Laczynski another shot.

Featuring Sean Couturier! He is still around and part of the rebuild plan moving forward apparently.

I don't trust Torts to do any of that. He makes up his mind about a player and that is it.

Torts has soured on Brink and has never liked Laczynski - what makes you think that he is going to change his mind?
