Now that the off-season has started for the Habs, it’s time to look back and see who was top of the class and who fell off their chair.

thanks Karine

I love the way you categorized your player ratings, "how low can you go" and "this low"

huh, that's odd, especially when "Shesterkin" just rolls off the tongue so easily... weird crowd.

Good blog ... fair assessment of our forwards.
This is Suzuki's team, perfect captain for us.

As for Pezzetta, I agree ... he's a penalty taking machine.
Ylonen (and Barron) are trade material.

well it's to be expected though with that kind of player...

Xhekaj, Gallagher and Anderson all had more penalty minutes than him this year.

Compare the ice time vs penalty minutes.

oh I know, just saying the kind of role he has usually involves spending some time in the penalty box... I wish he was able to do a bit more offensively though, not necessarily in terms of points but at least in creating a bit more momentum when he's on the ice, for me that's what is lacking in his case.

True but his role is also not to hurt the team ... no big deal, I don't expect he's part of the Habs future.

I'd have to check but from what I remember this year at least he wasn't taking too many dumb or lazy penalties, from situations that should've been completely avoided in the first place... but yeah I agree, being a bit more disciplined wouldn't be a bad thing.

I''m curious to see if Hughes will make some room upfront.
as of now all their forwards have contracts for next season, except Ylonen

Caufield Suzuki Slaf
Newhook Dach Armia
Anderson Dvorak Gally
Pezzetta Evans RHP

some kids will eventually knock at the door. Roy, Heineman, Tuch, our next 1st pick...
if they also trade for a top6 forward as reported, something is gonna have to give.

if they aren't able to make enough space on the roster while a lot of young players are ready to take a legit step for some NHL action I'm assuming veterans will have to sit, especially if one or more aren't able to do poop, just like Anderson this season. it was pretty clear to me the way MSL was talking about it in his post-season presser that there won't be as much patience if things aren't working out next year.

As we discussed previously, the next 2 summers are going to determine what kind of team the Habs management wants to have.

Tanner, Ylonen and White contracts are done ... doubtfull all of them will be resigned.

then ...

Dvorak, Armia, Evans, RHP and Pezzetta will be playing on expiring contracts next year.

Things are gonna get interesting to watch.

assuming Gally and Anderson are not tradable, which ones of the bold could go this summer?
really, the only logical answer is Armia
and Pezzetta on waivers after camp

with the way he was playing, sure, but Evans and RHP aren't bad hockey players either and their cap hit is more than reasonable.

I find it makes sense, every year you're bound to have a series or two that finish early, picking every series to go to 6 or 7 games isn't a sure strategy either.

plus the rags are a much better team, I know Ovechkin started playing better but I'm still surprised the caps made it lol
