All the fans that melted and reformed and melted and reformed. It must be difficult going from a die hard Red Wings fan to hating the team on a daily basis.

The fact they are still alive and haven’t committed suicide is why they get my vote for MVP. Very entertaining watching these people flip flop like fish out of water 😆😆😆😆

1967 Good luck in the first round... we know how that usually goes.

Lucas Raymond for me, he was huge when it mattered, took a big step forward this season, and I felt like he was our MVP.

Please ignore this moron.

Raymond is a star in the making who had a great season.
My MVP vote has to go to Seider. Where would the team have finished without him?

Larkin! What other player when injured caused the team to go in a tailspin? Not once but twice!

Whether we agree or disagree, please refrain from talking about “self termination”. I understand sarcasm, but that’s a pretty dark place to go.

I love what Raymond has done and how he stepped up. I stick to Larkin on a “night in/night out” basis. Raymond is a huge bright spot moving forward. Big goals in big moments aren’t lost on me to be sure.

I love Seider. He is fearless in front of pucks and seems to be able to save a lot of pucks from exiting the O zone. Likely my next Jersey or bobble head purchase, and I still chuckle about his draft. You would think someone passed gas during a silent prayer in church. A former sports radio guy tweeted, “is it too late to get Holland back?” When Yzerman drafted him. I knew almost nothing about Seider. But every year he wants to be better in some area.

That’s a compliment and concern. He’s my pick for the positive side of that equation. The team needs more “next man up” players when the captain is on the shelf. I think Seider could be that guy in a few years.

Just weeks after a guaranteed land purchase in AZ: https://www.prohockeyrumo...es-formally-approved.html

There are caveats all over this thing but perhaps the spike in a sideways glance was that the fan base was always there, only failing to fall under 12k once before they went to a 5k (4600) college arena. They even had almost 15k in average attendance once. Left out: how many owners? How many arenas? Why did the NHL have to run the team for a while? The Coyotes have had as many arenas as Detroit has since the Olympia opened. At least 3, now 4 in 28 years as the Coyotes.

Coyotes are toast. Maybe Meruelo is able to resurrect them, but 5 years is all he has. He made a $575m net profit on a $425m purchase in 2019. Will he invest it in land and build an arena? IDK.
Bettman approval of the $1B asking price was actually a pay off to Meruelo for the Yotes so the A-hole doesn't hold up the transition in the courts. And then he kicks back a relocation fee ($200M) to the other NHL owners when SMG buys the team for $1.2B.

Go to the article link. The caveats are insane. But, the spin of how the team was a success in the desert for much of its tenure ignores a lot of history. Meruelo was just told by Scottsdale they won’t approve water expansion into the land he’s looking at for an arena. By the time you get more than a dozen pages into the public postings there’s a list of all previous land owners of the site and surrounding areas. The site was previously Native American Tribal land and an asterisk lets you know that if a corpse is found during construction it has to be halted for a chunk of the area. No watershed tests, no erosion tests. Those all have to be done just to get a street (grateful that Father in Law is a civil engineer). This thing was a mess and it took about a week to go from “they’re definitely getting that land” to moving to Utah. Players still don’t actually know what to do yet. I’ve seen relocations but this is a doozy

That is why Bettman had him paid. He would have to move heaven and earth to get it built there. Watch him turn around and buy the Glendive arena and bring the Yote back there!

I think Larkin is the safe choice here, but let’s not forgot what Alex Lyon did to save this season. If we were left to rely on Reimer and Husso (or Hutchinson) all season, we’d be competing with San Jose and Chicago on draft lottery day instead of fighting for a playoff spot the final game of the season.

That’s the perfect bow on this. Lyon was a huge part of success. But, I think he was worn out at the end. If I heard the stats correctly he played more NHL games this year than in the past 3 combined. And he played them in a high pressure environment.

So, is Lyon a perennial backup or 1B that can manage 25-30 games a year no problem? Or was this a step forward that he can be the “go to”. Either way, without his presence the team wouldn’t have been in the thick of it all the way to the end. Good drop in

That’s the issue I’ve always had. They wouldn’t pay the lease for Gila, but there were multiple options. This wasn’t just frugality, it was borderline fraud. Even at capacity you need 4 games to equal 1 average size arena in attendance. They keep saying 5k but I’ve heard it’s closer to 4.6. The clearly isn’t enough in the agreement to force an owner to make sure they are in an arena that can hold an audience of at least 15-16k. None of this made sense, and the story kept changing. I’ll pull up the article I did last summer where the NHLPA was going to scrutinize the AZ club looking for any infraction where action could be taken. If you hold 4.6K people and if half the attendance is university students, those tix were $25. That’s just an absolute money pit

Even through the DWR Dead Things era from the 1966-67 season to the 1982-83 season encompassed a playoff privation of fifteen out of seventeen seasons. The Detroit Red Wings have never had a playoff drought quite this long in the BCE. ( before Chris Ilitch Era)
Well, here endeth the 8th Lesson. And eight straight OUT OF PLAYOFFS results listed on the DRW home page isn’t pretty to look at.

Every DRW fan please throw out the would’ves, could’ves, should’ves and all the cliches. Bottom line…..Not Good Enough !!!
Many more changes are required. I am not sold on a lot of these so called talented prospects in the system either. It’s been eight long years of training camp prospect boasting. I am personally so sick of it. I predicted months ago, this team was not good enough and would not make the playoffs. And, I don’t see any playoffs in the near future, without drastic changes resulting in a substantial improvement. Keeping in mind the all so important Parity Factor.
Thank heavens I don’t have to watch the New York Rangers destroy the Red Wings in eight days.

The rebuild continues….and to borrow Sir Elton’s lyrics for a moment if I may,
“ And I think it’s gonna be a………long long time “.
“ And I think it’s gonna be a………long long time “.

Look, my pre season prediction was no playoffs. You’re angry, a lot of fans are angry. Holland did a poll near the 20 year playoff mark. I don’t know how many of you took it. What was more important, building a new team or continuing that run into the post season. Overwhelmingly fans wanted the streak. We’re paying for it. Did the team improve, definitely. Was it brutal to miss? Absolutely. This conference is going to be brutal to grow in. It’s your absolute right to be frustrated, angry, fill in the blank. I’ll be doing the number comparisons in the next couple of days. We know the needs. We also know that in Toronto and Florida are three teams that are going to be awfully hard to get past. At last count the team improved in every major area but one, and that was goals against. It undercut the gains in a painful way and it felt like there was no defensive scheme for almost half the season. To see Raymond hit 30, to see Mo as high in the league for shots blocked, and the team hadn’t scored as many goals since 08-09 when Hossa was a Wing. There is good. It’s tough sledding to go from nothing and ejecting all but 3 players to building something.

Optimus-Moronus - Bud you’re a feedbag troll who is constantly disappointing your dad. You know absolutely nothing about hockey and make that clear when you only make stupid comments to get a rise out of others in the boards you troll up.

Be better. Call and apologize to your dad.
