Oh exciting a game against the hurriLAMES. Enjoy their constant clutch and grabs as they spam low percentage shots hoping for deflections

his brother Eric was so passionately opposed to it that he managed to erase ever using the pride tape when he was with the habs from his memory. it's like it never happened.

Martin Brodeur understands why goaltending workloads have changed in recent years, but the Hall of Famer still thinks the players at his old position are overprotected nowadays.

"I think we baby our goalies," the New Jersey Devils executive vice president of hockey operations told The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun on Tuesday. "I see it. I'm part of it. It's like, my goalie coach will say, 'He's played five games the past eight days …' I'm like, 'So?'"

"The sport has changed, but the position has changed a lot, just because of the workload that these guys are having," Brodeur said. "It's so volatile, that position. One year, you can be the top goalie. The second year, it's like you don't even belong in the league. It's weird how really volatile the position has become."

The four-time Vezina Trophy winner believes the split workloads contribute to how unpredictable the position can be in the modern game.

"It's the system of 1A and 1B that's going to create that," Brodeur said. "Because it's always going to be, 'We can't play back-to-back (games).' You're so scared the No. 1 gets hurt. And so you baby that guy for the longest time. So, these guys are playing 55 games. They should be playing 65-to-70 games like we did."

I get that Brodeur is one of hockey's best goalies ever, but doesn't this just sound like an old schmuck complaining about how things were better back in the day? he stopped playing a decade ago, and he seems to be completely in denial about how much the game has changed for everyone, including goalies.

Brodeur played his whole career behind great defense corps and a team was trapping so much they almost killed hockey. Of course he didn't think it was too many games.

Not trying to take anything away from him, I still see him as one of the greats, but to be honest I think he has been sheltered for most of his career.

good point.

and there's also the fact that players got stronger, quicker, and are taking harder shots... being an NHL goalie didn't become easier, in fact it's quite the opposite imho.

I believe his greatest accomplishment was playing so many games in 00-01 that they had trouble signing a back up, so EA made the devil's backup in NHL 2002 named G. Backup

72 overall, not bad, but he doesn't need much with the silly baby amount of games he has to play, since Marty the way manlier goalie is taking all the workload.
