By my count, the first line has two goals since the Islanders game. Raymond has 5 goals and 6 points in the last 5 games, he's the only bright spot, though he did nothing in the previous 5 games. I get it that Larkin hurts the team as he's really the only center they have that can make things happen, but they have 10 players with over 30 points (best in the NHL). However, DeBrincat has 1 assist in the past 10 games, Kane has 2 goals and 3 assists in the past 10, Compher 1g 1a in the last 10, Copp has 4 assists, Seider has 3 assists. That's not on Lyon. When they signed him, the knock on DeBrincat is that he scores in bunches and then disappears for a while. One point in 10 games by the guy signed to be their premier goal scorer is a huge problem. He should be getting a minimum of 5 shots per game, he's averaged 2.2 over the past 10. I think Kane is getting him the puck, but he's missing the net a lot and he's getting blocked. For him, if he gets a clean feed, he's going to score, but I see him having to adjust on a lot of his passes. Their 1st line system should be to feed him all game long, but it's just not happening.
The off season will be interesting if Raymond wraps up the season as the team's leading scorer. He's going to want more than what the team planned to pay him.

Mornin’ Blue. Another great day in the ROK!!!
Yeah, wasn’t tracking the abysmal numbers. Like you, I can minimally understand hot-n-cold streaks, but everyone going cold at the same time is a mystery to me. The Cat’s shots are just an inch off, but that’s been him pretty much all season….so WHO’S coaching him to adjust his shot placement? This gets back to the coaching issue. I’m not a fan of hammering coaches/leaders when things seem systemic (old Inspector General philosophy).
Root Cause Analysis comes down to 3 major causes: Can’t, Won’t, or Don’t. Can’t because they don’t have the resources, Won’t because they’re being obstinent, or Don’t have the knowledge. Not sure how we fit into the above. Got some good players, this IS a good team. Everyone seems a step behind. But again, leaders are responsible for everything that happens, or fails to happen, on their watch.
May he time to send a message to the players. Something has GOT to give. And we need a stud D, a stand-out 2C, and a G that’s established enough to allow Lyon time to develop more. Lyon’s good, no doubt. But ye’s never played more than 15 games before this season. Husso was “supposed” to be the guy, but he’s got issues as well. Again, WHO’S the G coach, and what’s being done? Can’t pay all of this at Lyon’s feet; he’s shown brilliance, just needs time. Husso’s tracking & lateral movement hasn’t changed so whatever “coaching” that’s being done is an epic failure.
Being this close to making the SCPO was an added extra at the beginning of the season. But the glaring holes on this team aren’t getting any better. We’re in a bit of a pickle w/D; Holl’s too costly for too long w/minimal return. Ghost is awesome, but 1yr may be too short (or lose him in UFA…I say go 2x$4m or so), Petry may well be in his last year. Maatta’s been a solid D guy who’s had more offensive out-put than thought. Someone needs to step up.
Sad to see this collapse. We’re better than this…..
