Yeah they need to toughen up...no doubt, the roster lacks pushback.... few players on this squad can show up for a game like this... Perron, Chiarot, and maybe Fabbri... and realistically if that's what you got your in trouble... no offense to any of those 3..... this team needs a player or two that are unpredictable and simply dirty on the ice.... I think the team makes the playoffs but expectations of anything past round 1 are slim..... its for those reasons Stevie will make trades that present themselves if he feels it improves the team in the future.....

I can tell you I had a text come in saying the same. This was not an easy watch.

This is where we’re in total agreement. The “if” factor on trades is a pick, prospect, or even just shedding salary and opening spots. They have to come out strong against a recent cup winner in hostile territory. It’s a rough ride and they have to dig deep.

Way too melancholy this time Jeremy.

Panthers came out and played smash mouth hockey and the refs put their whistles away, until Detroit got caught retaliating. No Kostin to help out, Chiarot was out foxed by Matty, Bennett got in a few free-bees, and they totally went after Walman, who is a light-weight. Detroit is totally out matched in a game where extra-curricular activities are allowed to run rampant.

It is frustrating, but I tried to push past the muck and into what Detroit can and can’t control. You cannot control how the game is called, and this one had all the scrums of a 90s game vs. the Avs. Detroit can’t physically answer the bell, and early on we’re getting the benefit of the calls. They whiffed on those power plays. The third period felt smash mouth and insane. But, if I lead with those aspects and ignore the missed opportunities the balance is gone. The kettle was whistling, so I did the best I could to push into what Detroit can do. They can keep getting younger, but also add strength. It is a nearly impossible line to walk when you know the messages and hits are coming I’m not sure where else to go than rise up to the challenge and overcome it. The third had Detroit being outshot nearly 2 to 1 at one point. That 3rd goal and Petry’s reaction showed just a flustered group. But if I write about cheap shots and non calls I know what’s waiting for me. The only answer is for the team to look at what is waiting on the next step toward contention and rise up to meet it.

Sorry brother. I was a bit hot on this one. You’re a good man, H2. I knew it would be a rough game but I didn’t expect the guys to fly off. Lots of rewriting to try and stay in the lane and it was frustrating.

For anyone who wants to see it, Panthers apparently in on Hanifin but speculated to try and make him too expensive for Lightning.

I never thought I would ever see the day that the iconic winged wheel jersey would ever be desecrated. It started with the helmets a few seasons back.
Now the impiety has officially spread like a cancer to the jerseys with a
Priority Patch. And it is only the start. Within a handful of seasons, the NHL will look like a league of Clowns Suits, just as they do in the European leagues.
The only things missing, will be the red sponge noses and the clown’s feet.
I guess you need only to look no further than the coaching staff to adorn that paraphernalia.
As far as Dem Bums wearing the sacrilegious jerseys goes, since a six game winning streak against five non playoff teams.
Dem Bums have lost two straight in Men versus Boys episodes.

I predicted months ago, Dem Bums would not make the playoffs. I underestimated the amount of other bad teams there are in the conference.
If they do back into the playoffs, with help. They will be swept faster than a knife fight in a phone booth.

Defence is a joke
Goaltending erratic and volatile
Too many inconsistent forwards
No sandpapered toughness on this team

To quote one of President Kennedy‘s favourite Robert Frost poems,
“ Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening “
Yzerman still “ has miles to go before l sleep “

I was waiting for a write up on that patch. That segment was cringy. When I saw “Milk” on the Toronto jerseys I was taken aback. Those international league jerseys look like NASCAR. But we knew the day was coming when revenues just weren’t bouncing back. Floating ads on the glass, moving ads on the boards so 3 companies can purchase one panel, sponsored power play, sponsored PK. In the NBA a couple guys got tattoos at one point advertising. Feels like something left. Something special.

Florida is a bad match for the Wings and many other teams that lack toughness and hard nosed players. Their physical style of always finishing hits every time in all zones and pressure all over the ice so they don't have any time or space is a style that always gives the Wings problems. Add all the cheap shots, after the whistle crap they get away with and i doubt any team wants to play them in the playoffs...not just the Wings.

If the Wings make the playoffs and end up against Florida, i think the Wings are out in 4 games...maybe 5 at most. They match up better against anybody else in the East (not saying they would beat all of them but at least they might have a chance).

Need that upgrade at RD behind Seider. Petry was on the ice for 3 of the 4 goals tonight.

Could never understand where al the talk was that he wants Tampa as his #1 destination, him & Matty Tkachuk are besties & I can easily see him signing there.

Agree 100% with Dcz28. Florida is by far the worst matchup for Detroit in the playoffs. Florida plays a high pressure heavy game and they hit at every opportunity. All the cheap shot crap after the whistle usually does not get called... especially in the playoffs. That type of play just takes the Wings off their game and frustrates them. This is not the same Red Wings team in their glory days when they fought the Avs. This team does not have that kind of muscle and brute skill. Detroit has a far better chance against any other team in the East. This game will be a reminder to Yzerman about what this team lacks to go the distance in the playoffs.... tough players that are hard-nosed and hard to play against. Wings need a tough, gritty and effective stay-at-home RD who makes life miserable for other teams' forwards and protects Lyon. A younger top 4 defenseman in a perfect world.

That talk has picked back up. Head to https://www.prohockeyrumo...n-markstrom-guentzel.html

Friedman is citing that TB is Hanifin’s “preferred” destination where he’d be willing to sign an extension (looking for around 8.75m). That doesn’t mean it’s right, but the link they have is to his Saturday “headlines” edition. Calgary, to get “full value”, wants to find that trade destination where an extension framework is in place. I don’t know the pieces in play but apparently FLA is making things tough for the Flames. That’s all Friedman territory

This game was what I feared it would be; rough, grinding, advantageous "interactions", constant pressure.

Y'all hit the major take-aways, we know there's a way to go before we're consistent SCF calibre. There are holes we know/knew about. What I did NOT want to see was retaliation. We did a pretty good job of keeping cooler heads, FLA thrives on crap play when refs aren't looking and taking opposing key players out. Kudos for "calmer" heads, but we have GIT to get that "smelly" d-dude. Kostin, unfortunately, wasn't put in the line-up, but that would've been sending the weong message maybe? I my eyes,he should'ce been in simply to make that statement that the crap would be answered.

We missed a few chances for sure. Got to learn to adjust to the speed and closure rates that teams lile FLA play with. If we can't, it's gonna be a LONG rebuild. FLA is a beast. But so are the Wings in some respects. The Captain has some serious work to do. This is still a very good team. Have to learn to exploit our capabilities to playing against a team of grinders.

I'm not freakin' out over the game. I think, deep inside each of us, we kinda knew this was how it was gonna go. To quote Eddie Harris ("Major League"), it's time "... to girg up our loins for battle..."

“ FLA thrives on crap play when refs aren't looking and taking opposing key players out.”

The first part is debatable, they play aggressively and in your face, and the opposition often takes the first shot to really set off a scrum. The second part is really just a load of crap, they play hard, but they’re not out there trying to take any players out.
