Nylander has a full NMC for NOW and for the length of his new deal. When he signed his new deal TML added an NMC to the backend of his current deal. I am guessing they could do that because his RFA years ended last July 1.

Can you imagine if Tampa Bay missed the playoffs? It is an absolute cat fight for the two wild card spots. Although I wouldn’t bet against Tampa Bay with their line up, but they are flirting with the razor thin edge of the cut-off line. They have smart management, but their 2023-24 retooling, with key injuries this year looks like they might have to blockbuster and retool.

Briere reversing course on a rebuild would be such a Flyers move. He should be selling still. Tortorella is doing a great job with his roster, but they aren't contenders.

There you go, i haven’t heard of many back dated mods like that and that’s probably why there was only the one conversation about Nylander. The Leafs round table mentioned targeting Matt Dumba and Chris Tanev as targets. They acknowledge that those raises could cause a change in the “core four” so that puts pressure on this year’s team to do it. Not sure how they move Tavares without multiple teams involved with retention and not sure if they want to send Marner out. Seems like a tough scenario to get the upgrades they may need for a deep run

It’s hard to imagine them missing, but they have two cups and have had to let go of players they didn’t want to. Part of the success. It would hurt a lot more if they didn’t have the hardware

I got the feeling they just need some healthy bodies in the lineup on the blue line. If they tried to ‘go for it’ it may be a costly gambit indeed

I leave the house in VA every morning around 550am....about an hour on the road to the office. I get bored. This morning, I tuned into the NHL channel on S-XM, had a blurb from I believe yesterday's show. Big talk about the Wing & how our D is 30th in 5v5, How can they be doing this good with such a horrible D?!?!?!? Blah blah blah. Anyway, while the 5v5 thing was unknown by me, the guest (an former G) said Hey whenyou score like the Wings do, who needs D? Ya got Lyon backing them up!!!! He also brought up how Lyon made the Panther's SCPO run happen and got no credit for it......true, true. It was also said the Wings are this year's version of last year's NJD.....

Well, yeah, but....no matter how ya slice it, D wins championships. We do need some blue-line help. Tanev's off the board for now. I don't wanna see Gudas wearing red. I think a defensive d-dude would help. Still like H's offers.... Eddy will help, maybe dump Holl and bring in another. The foundation is pretty set, I think. But as we're seeing in the Cap Era, teams are forced to fall apart. I'll be slightly surprised to see TPA not make the SCPO this year....Knowing that, as the new TPA GM; I'm re-tooling now to see what can happen next year. If we fail, rebuild.

The future is bright. Another W for GR last night to keep their point streak alive at 16 games. Kasper scores, Edvinsson scores the OT game winner with some dangles and Cossa is on fire. I know there's a few of you on here that thought Cossa was a bust for the past two years. He started out slow last year and finished the year as the best goalie in the ECHL. He started slow this year, but no AHL goalie is playing better right now and he was just the AHL goalie of the week.

I could see the Wings sending Augustine to Toledo next year, give Cossa one more year, then in 2026 Cossa is in the Show, Augustine takes over GR and he's a year or two behind. Detroit could have a rock-solid back end in a few years, and one that could last for a really long time.

And think that Cossa could team up with Lyon for a bit......that could turn out to be a VERY formidable tandem.....then add in Augy in a few years, Eddy, Kasper, Mazur, Tuimisto..... What we're seeing this year is just the tip of the iceberg. Right now, our prospect pool is deep and these kids are maturing quickly. I'm of course concerned about 5+ years from now...., but this team's not only good NOW, but there portends a bright future as well. Things are clicking well, tonight's "another" big test, but this is a good team (it's been said here several times) with a resource-rich farm system.

Thinking Lyon, Reimer and Husso will all be gone when Cossa comes up, unless he comes up at the tale end of next year.
