So basically after half of year of Dubas being a president and GM, FSG creates a new job for Epstein to basically manage Dubas.
So Dubas goes from โ€œthe guyโ€ to โ€œthat guyโ€ ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†

It's amazing how triggered Leafs fans get about Kyle Dubas. You guys chose not to renew his contract.

Agree with RW... He won't be involved in any player decisions, but more likely a sounding board for direction and timing.

If I'm Dubas, I would have already approached Sid on an extension. I'd ask him point blank if he intends to retire as a Penguin. If he hedges, I'd assume he's probably going to chase a cup somewhere else. Don't know how you can make any decisions for this team without that knowledge.

Too bad Mario and FSG have such a bad relationship. Epstein should attempt to fix it.

I thought Dubas reached out to epstein before taking the pens job to learn more about FSG too. So there is a trust factor.

Dubas is living rent free up in a lot of Leafs fans heads. They act like he was a sh!tty GM and I think it's due to an insecurity stemming from the fact their team is worse in every conceivable metric stat-wise under a new GM this season.

Whats the truth behind this? Also, say the Pens trade him and he doesn't do well because he's not with Crosby, how bad does this hurt his contract?

Just a heads up not a Leaf fan.
Dubas is a โ€œyesโ€ man.
He didnโ€™t resign in Toronto because he wanted to skip past Shanahan and go direct to ownership. Signs in Pittsburgh because he gets what he wants and then 8 months later FSG creates a new job which essentially is Dubas getting a new Shanahan just a different name - Epstein.

I mean Dubas hasnโ€™t exactly done great here. Karlson and Graves are a bust.

Is that allowed though? Sid can't sign an extension until July 1. Not sure when they're allowed to actually talk about an extension, but wouldn't be surprised if this is off limits until close to July 1. (There are a lot of rules in the CBA about when you can talk to players about contracts.)

Interesting dilemma the Pens face . There are certain athletes that dont belong in any other uniforms and Crosby is one of them. Coming from a non Pens fan I would like to see him retire a Pen. After petitioning the team to resign Malkin and Letang just dont see him abandoning ship. How tight is he with Guentzel will he be pushing Pens to resign him like he did with the others?

.
I don't agree about Karlsson at all, Graves I do. Dubas has been on the job for half a season, that's all, and inherited some mess. Hard to judge a GM so swiftly, for me anyway. He has a pretty damn good GM resume up to this point...

If the Pens PP was ticking at all Sid would be on pace for 100+ and Geno and EK would be on pace for ppg+ this season. EK is on pace for 60, despite the atrocious PP, playing arguably the best defence of his career..

Epstein isnโ€™t running hockey ops for the Penguins. Heโ€™s part of ownership. Not the same as Shanahan at all, who was director of hockey ops.

If not for crosbys season this team is unwatchable. Nothing interesting about it.

Not all in dubas but he hasnโ€™t made the team better.

Graves sucks
Smith is meh
Ek has been ok but not worth $11m
Bottom 6 is still plugs.
Goal has been a ++

Crosby is their property. I can't imagine the CBA restricting general conversations between a player/team about the future. They don't even need to discuss a specific contract.

And yet if they had an average PP they'd easily be in a playoff spot. A good PP would have them near the top of the division. It shouldn't be going this badly. If there's a failing from Dubas, I'd say he's not taken decisive action on fixing it. Fire Reardon or hire a PP consultant. Do something different, because there's more than enough evidence, this collective of coach and players isn't working.

By the way it look like Pulj just signed a contract with the Pens. I guess they've seen enough. I think it's like 800k a year.

They are prohibited about talking about money or term

They can say, "We want you here" "We really want to be here"

Iโ€™ll be honest, given the title of the blog I thought Jim Rutherford was back.
