Hoping if we move away from the stail Blog, maybe we get something moving here. Really dead around the league. Either it explodes here trade wise or this could really be another Crappy Hockey summer. Think Adams picked the wrong off-season.

Wonder is SJ wants Morrow from Carolina instead of Pesce. If they are asking for Bouchard from Edmonton. Maybe they want a young D back.

Seems like it, Adams seems to do a lot of talking, but seems a bit gun shy. It was said Darcy was a hard GM to deal with, some GM's didn't like him. I hope Adams doesn't become that.

Or he acts quickly when asked by others, like Okposo with keeping all three goaltenders on the NHL roster, or Granato with Greenway.

Sounds like Granato asked for Clifton to! Hope Adams plan works, not very impressed with the offseason so far.

Nah Clifton is just someone that everyone could agree on. Solid in his own end, familiarity with the coach, uses physicality in a way that doesnt hurt his own team.

The question mark there is usage cause if a player with his makeup and numbers was available having played top 4 minutes regularly he'd be my first choice.

I think that’s the only place they differ. It seems like Darcy was shrewd whereas Adams is timid. Slight but big difference.

Sure, but would he have been available to Buffalo then. It's a good contract for Clifton, if he can prove he can play top 4 minutes and keep his consistency. He will be young enough to cash in on a bigger payday. Sabres hopefully get that play and benefit from it and at that time down the road hopefully a youngin is ready.

How often are those players available?

Feels like they either haven't proven it yet like Clifton, or they're players who are closing in on 30 and potentially looking for a giant deal one season before becoming a UFA (Pesce, Toews).

He’s Colin Miller

That’s not a bad thing for him as Miller is a good #5 and a #4 tweener but Clifton isn’t someone who’s going to move the needle defensively or offensively. He’s just kinda not bad. Hopefully he helps the PK.

I was hoping they either got someone like Pesce or Demelo to move Samuelsson down as I think he’s probably more of a #4 than a 2/3.

Or I was hoping they just leaned into the high octane blue line and went and got a Bouchard type player

Right I was just mostly responding to the idea that they only signed him because Granato asked.

he was probably the best value FA option, and likely their second choice to Pesce, who said no.

Although fwiw, Clifton and Marino were worth the same amount of wins last year (0.7)
