Interesting that with his lack of speed he would have been seen as a target. But given that Trotz was looking to give him away and with the salary retention this could be a good move. A line of Rantanen RJ and Nuke would be miserable to play against. Also it will be nice to have a net front presence. At 4mil/per I like it, and at the cost of literally nothing I like it even better.

Something I saw and didn't realize... Avs were not a good FA team and RJ is very good in the dot.. That will def be a big help.

Oh for sure, it was just an accepted thing for me that they would start every single power play by retrieving the puck from their own zone first. "OK, power play guys, that's a good minute thirty to work with". It's one of those things you stop worrying about after a while because it's part of their DNA.

Even if RyJo hovers around a half ppg for $4M and free you couldn't go wrong, some good bit of GM work once again by Sakic imo.
