The Troy Mann signing appears to be a great one. Belleville needs a coach who is very good at developing players.
In Mann, I suspect that the Senators have just hired Guy Boucher's replacement. The only question in my mind is whether Boucher lasts the year in Ottawa. |

Sweet.
At least their eating $ (first with Phanuef) and now Burrows.
They NEED to resign Karlsson and this is a good sign (not saying it moved the meter up a lot). Instead of $ 2.5m it's 0.833m this year and then next year. |

You won't see a decision on trading Karlsson until there is a decision on the sale of the team. If new owners are coming in, as I believe, they will call the shots on a Karlsson trade.
If new owners want to move Karlsson they will ask Melnyk to do it. If new owners want to keep him, Alfredsson will be named head of hockey operations and his first act will be to resign Karlsson. |

They're running out of time though, I am assuming that by this point PD has a pretty good idea what Karlsson would sign here for (if a number even exists). If not, then can't wait too long to trade him because now is when everyone has cap space etc. If they know that he will be gone by this time next year and they allow the season to start, trading him will be 100x more difficult.
(Not to mention the distraction to the team, and we'll all have to listen to TSN and that Coga clown talk about it every day for 6 months) |

If the stars align and the team does sell that will make PDs job with Karlsson a lot easier. If we resign him people will be happy that new owners are committed to the fans and out best players. And if not, with new ownership, I feel the fans will be more welcoming of a new rebuild. They will just be happy melnyk is gone. |

I think Karlsson stays if the team is sold. I don't think it matters if it gets done before the new season starts.
I think this is one case where waiting actually helps the situation for the Sens.
New owners would not be seen as wanting to move Karlsson. So, the longer it goes the more certain we are of a new group coming in.
Most fans see the Karlsson situation as being the most important. In fact, everything is dependent on getting the ownership mess resolved. |

Not sure how that makes any sense. Ottawa is already below cap floor once MacArthur and other carve outs are calculated. One day a team is going to make a huge offer sheet and another team is going to grab the draft picks. Just don't see a team giving up a cluster of picks. |

who cares about cap.
melnyk is broke. he won't match a bonus heavy contract.
1st, 2nd and 3rd for an $8M deal. below market value for a 2-way forward of stone's ilk.
what did you think about the hoffman return? |

I thought they made a mistake and should have put Hoffman on waivers on day one.
Do you remember the turn around of Nashville situation a few years ago? Philadelphia made a horrendous long term offer (no longer possible). The fragile Nashville group had to recapitalize in order to meet the offer.
An offer sheet would be another straw that pushes Melnyk to inevitable departure. The new owners are ready to go. |

The offers for the Sens are far more advanced than what was happening in Nashville at the time of the Weber offer. A Stone offer sheet can only help. Like some of the Nashville owners it would provide Melnyk with a face saving way out (well he would be able to say it).

are you underwriting the deal?
i have solution for your anxiety. you're always wrong, so don't worry about being right.
listen to someone like me instead. stone is gone and it's months before melnyk sells the trash heap he's created. |

The Sens are an $8b power play right now, including LeBretton and Bayview station development. Melnyk is simply not financially capable of playing in this game. All the potential buyers of the Sens intend to be major players in one of Canada's largest redevelopment projects.
Melnyk has sent signals out that he is not being given a chance to run the redevelopment. I believe the reason for this is that nobody is prepared to lend him the capital for the project. He is stopped before he can start.
A less authoritative source has suggested that potential buyers have quietly bought up Melnyk and the Senators outstanding debt and they are negotiating a walk away price for Melnyk (I have no real inside source on this story but it does make sense from a business sense). Whoever owns the debt pretty well owns the team and its holdings. |

Glad to hear they are trying to fix the pipeline. If thats broke they have no chance.
I dont know why Melynk would sell now. Not before a shovel hits the ground. That 1 shovel full could net him 50 mill easily.
Maybe he wants a partner?
Hope they buyout Gaborik.
I do believe the good ship Sens is starting to slowly turn around. |

Central issue is Melnyk. Everything else is marginal. If losing Stone is part of the price of Ottawa ridding itself of the cancer that Melnyk has become...it will be worth it in the long term.

I am also hopeful. It is incredibly quiet. Nobody is saying anything. Noise is usually driven by uncertainty. The fact there is so little noise suggests to me that a few people already know how this is going to finish. |
