The Red Wings had one of those drafts which can go down in history. Potentially two top line forwards (Zadina definitely, Veleno possibly). And they can get two decent Dmen in the second round. Looks good.

To be honest... the forward groups already looks pretty decent (don't know how they would play). Too bad your fourth line is a bit expensive.

Frk was not qualified so he is likely gone. You also forget Svechnikov although i'm not sure he makes the team this year.

Given they went hard on forwards in this first round, i wouldn't mind them trading Svechnikov to Carolina in a package deal for Hanafin. Carolina could unite the Svechnikov brothers and the Wings get a defenseman worth a damn for a change.

KH did absolutely the right thing. he took the best player at both picks - didnt base it on position. to think that you feel their is a game-changing defensemen that will make an impact next year (even at #6) is laughable.

Some of Kennys problems over the years in drafts have been that he drafts position - and not best available. this year - he got it right. Sorry Duff - but i couldn't disagree with you more. the NHL draft is pretty much always a crap shoot. you have to pick best player. well done Kenny

Corey Pronman ranked Zadina 11th. Out of all prospects of last 5 years!

I think Detroit and the Islanders had the best first rounds of anyone at least on paper. It takes a few years to look back and get true perspective but even with the need for defense, taking these two guys could turn out to be a really smart play in a few years.

Still should draft most skilled player available. Reaching for positional need based on current roster is bad. D prospect pool is actually okay.

Wouldn't be terrible to start looking at whoever is the top G prospect either.
