Carol Schram: Sedins win King Clancy, Boeser is rookie all-star, draft odds for Canucks
Daniel and Henrik Sedin became the first co-winners of the King Clancy Trophy at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas on Wednesday, while Brock Boeser was named to the rookie all-star team. The scene now shifts to Dallas, where the first round of the 2018 Draft will take place on Friday.
Revealed it was the LA Kings Beat Reporter who gave Gourde that first place vote.
This Ballot though
1)Yanni Gourde
2) Kyle Connor
3) Matt Barzal
4) Nico Hischier
5) Clayton Keller

What a hack. - classic321
Worst part is he thought he was voting for Laurel Gourde.

Thanks Carol, I found it interesting and unsettling that the best odds have us taking bouchard, then boqvist, then dobson. I bet even Donald would rather the odds not be like that.
No the real Bias is from Toronto.
They had multiple guys who didn't give Boeser a single vote.
Imagine still being salty because he embarrassed Anderson in Toronto. - classic321
Saw you posted this over at HF:
This is exactly what I was worried about when watching him play. He basically lets every forward just cross the blue line with the puck and rarely forces them to dump it in. And even when he does try to challenge forwards(which isn’t often), they beat him wide
I’m sure some of it can be coached, but I highly doubt he goes from being terrible at in the OHL to good at it in the NHL.

I'm certain that Bouchard has some defensive warts but those stats are also skewed based off of the system London deployed.
This article broke down the stats behind Dobson vs Bouchard.
Here is what the author posted after showing that same set of stats.
Yet, I’ve rarely noted Bouchard as being bad defensively; in fact, it’s quite the opposite, and I’d reckon he’s roughly around the same level as Dobson.
A closer look found than Bouchard and the London Knights utilized the neutral zone trap in the games tracked, which meant that Bouchard was rarely targetted by opposing forwards as they had to go through London’s forwards first. The only times Bouchard really stepped up on forwards was in the defensive zone, meaning that tracking neutral zone defence exclusively fails to adequately measure Bouchard’s defensive ability. One way to control for this is by looking at the numbers relative to the rest of London’s defenders, in which case Bouchard falls right on team average.
As much as a I want Dobson over Bouchard/Boqvist I will not be angry with the pick. If Bouchard has the willingness to get a skating coach to improve himself there he has a very high ceiling, I just don't like that his floor is a bottom pairing PPQB.

I'll take the floor of a PPQB over the floor of a bottom 6 jack of all trades.
Worrying about the floor is how you end up with Virtanen over Ehlers.

Dobson looks like the floor of second pairing and ceiling of top pairing. Bouchard has floor of bottom pairing and ceiling of top pairing. Bouchard has a higher ceiling than Dobson, but Dobson seems more likely to reach his ceiling. Unless his skating improves Bouchard will never be worth a 7oa pick. But again it is an area that can be improved if a player puts the effort into improving it, just look at Bo. People thought he would be a 3c or at best a 2c and now he looks like a 2c that can be a 1c.
