I don't get why a rebuilding team would care where he trades guys to. |

Seriously though, Could Boedker not have been had for a 7th alone as strictly a cap dump?
San Jose clearly wanted that contract off the books, guy was a healthy scratch throughout last season
The incompetence is baffling
I wait with baited breath for Dorion to hold out too long on trading Karlsson, holding out for more while being offered less, then watching him walk as a UFA |

Considering there was talk about buying him out I would agree. |

Thanks for your coverage Trevor. Trade is underwhelming.
Carrying over from last blog. We should try to trade Karlsson to Colorado. If not, let's try to ice the best team this year.
If we can trade him:
1. Trading Karlsson back for our 1st + something (Barrie?) would be great indeed. Then we basically traded Karlsson for Duchene but forget about that.
2. Dorion and Melnyk need to go
3. Re-sign Wideman, Ceci.
4. Trade Stone for a treasure trove of assets (futures)
5. Trade Zack Smith for a treasure trove of nothing
6. Flip Duchene and Anderson on the TDL to teams who are interested.
Boedker - Duchene - Ryan
Zadina - Pageau - Gaborik
Paajarvi - White - Dzingel
Pyatt - Chlapik - Burrows
Chabot - Ceci
Harpur - Wideman
Borowiecki - Bergman
Anderson - Condon

I sympathize Ottawa fans....that's an ugly morning... Proposed on the Hawks board today....
"Now since Gene Gene "the Dancing Machine" Melnyk needs money, how about the Hawks get creative and spend. Like #8 and #27 this year and their #1 next year (and a player or two for Ottawa's #4 and Erik Karlsson. That would be McD's type of headlines.

Time to hold your nose and let it go.
Maybe it's a step towards keeping Karlsson around. I hope it is.
Better to think of Boedker as a really good replacement for Burrows.
Look to the young guys coming up to replace Hoffman's goals...eventually. Batherson, Brown, Formenton, White..... |

This is what I don't get either.
And I refuse to give Dorion the benefit of the doubt with his recent track record. |

No, we don't downgrade this years 4th pick and give up Karlsson. |

They won't be giving up the 4th in addition to Karlsson, that's insane.

Really cant fathom how people are shocked at the fact PD’s hands were tied. Hoffman was a cancer. There was no “he’s the best player” etc. It was get him out of town. Period. Everyone knew he had to go. PD had no standing in trading him.
Ottawa needs prospects so can see the argument on taking picks BUT Tallon also said that offer was NOT on the table with PD. That deal was not there to make.
Is the trade underwhelming yes.
That said what now is the focus is what Ottawa builds on with the cap space and other moves. Does EK now sign and stay? How big a factor will be Melnyk on EK talks and UFA talks?
And IF EK goes CAN PD hit the homerun trade?! This one could be the biggest of them.

You move down 4 spots, get another 1st, a prospect like Forsling, + next year's first for a player who will be walking for nothing next summer. I'll come back to the thread when Erik Karlsson is traded for a Hoffman-esque underwhelming trade. |

Mind Boggling how 3 Canadian franchises are headed by GM’s that seemingly have no idea how to run a franchise. Bergevin, Chiarelli and Dorion are possibly the 3 worst GM’s in the entire league hands down. Can’t even come up with the 4th worst because nobody is even close. |

Thats still on Dorion though, Clearly Tallon was willing to give up those assets to acquire Hoffman, so it's up to Dorion to extract the offer from Tallon
Seriously, Did Dorion even talk to Tallon? Did Tallon not offer anything better than an overpaid Boedker?
Seems as though Tallon could have offered only a 2nd to Ottawa and they'd have done better accepting that than what they got from San Jose |

HELLO HUGHES - DutchSenators What player do the Avs have that is worth Karlsson?
the answer is Mack, but they aren't giving him up, plus he's not what Ottawa needs.
The only way to get fair value for Karlsson is to trade for a star Defense.
The only answers would be Doughty, Hedman or PK and the only one who is even close on the outs with their team would be Doughty.
The only other option would back a package and I don't think fans would ever accept that. You have to have the star defensive power in return.

I will not take credit for this:
SJS trades all the picks for Karl
So in essence Ottawa traded Karl for Hoffman
