If Barry Trotz signs in Minnesota, then its clear what the Capitals need to do:

1. Sign Bruce Boudreau,
2. Bring back Mike Green,
3. Sign Alexander Semin,
4. Sign John Carlsson to a long term extension.

It's time to bring the band back together!

Wow. After the cup win, I really expected Caps management to give Trots a serious offer to stay.

I know you've listed all the reasons why you don't care for him as a coach James, but I guess I just expected the ownership group to fall back in love with him after he coached the team to it's first ever cup.

I bet he gets a nice contract with another club fairly quickly. Edmonton does seem like a possibility.

Tanner had to change his undies after reading that breaking news! Now they can get a real coach.

Not a Trotz fan? Wow. Shocking. It's not like you've been tearing apart everything about the Capitals since about 7/1/17. But, whoudathunkit?!

I fully expect James Tanner to begin somehow justifying why the 2018 Stanley Cup doesn't really count in NHL history. Probably something about how Arizona was a better team on paper, and by the home opener be tagging it with an asterisk at every mention.

Got me too. Most of the writers on here go rouge and turn off spellcheck. I just assumed it was proofread by Graf...

Why the Trotz hate? He was able to get the most out of Ovechkin. It wans't long ago that he was a mere power play specialist with a horrendous +/- rating. Trotz coached the previously uncoachable, and they finally won. Not all of coaching is Xs and Os. A big part of it is managing personalities.

Trotz did not get the best out of Ovechkin. Ovechkin is the best goal scorer in NHL history. If anything, OV made Trotz look good. Also, Ovechkin was always good.

Barry Trotz. 19 years in the NHL, 6th all time in wins. 56% winning record. Just won the championship.

Yes, but...how many shot attempts do his teams generate and supress at 5v5 per 60 minutes? Keep your eyes on the ball here, sheesh.

Ovechkin became a more complete player, much better back-checking and in his own zone under Trotz than any coach prior.

One thing that really defeats your "results are all that matters" post is this: if the sixth best coach in NHL history only wins 56% of his games, then aren't I 100% right that it's a coin flip?

Furthermore, sixth best is misleading because if you coached before 2005 or whenever it was, 20% of your games (at least) finished in a tie. So wins based all time stats are pretty meaningless.

Scotty Bowman. 58% win percent. Less than 15% of his games ended in ties. Coached entire career before 2005.

Only 58%? What a schmuck.

20% (at least) of his games were ties? Sure, whatever you say, oh Guru of Corsi.

So a 19 year sample size of 56% is a coin-flip, but a 1 game sample size of 52% attempted shots is 'dominating'?

I dunno, seems like a good guess to me. Keep trying to 'gotcha' hockey bloggers in the comments section, it's a sure fire path to success!!
