I still don't believe that's his real name. That's up there with Pär Djoos for obviously fake Swedish names. |

He’s coulda need some Loob to get through every draft day when his team doesn’t pick until the 3rd or 4th round |

I'm surprised Loob never licensed his name to an oil-change franchise. |

Good move. What ive seen over the years he has told us about talent over there. Now its just a official position. |

So according to Garth ,
DH for S. Reinhart and Buffalo´s 32nd is a fair deal.
Man I love this site. |

Trotzy out in Washington... Makes one wonder if BT rushed to judgement on Peters.
Not sure if there has been absolute confirmation that Trotz is looking to take a year off or not, but man, to have Trotz available off of a cup win and have no vacancy sucks. |

BT got his man. We just have to trust his judgement (it's getting to the point where I question his decisions more than I support them), although I completely agree with you. It would've been awesome to have a coach like Trotz who has been successful for the majority of his coaching career.
Peters is a gamble but I think that Treliving had permission to talk to Peters long before the season ended so it was a sure thing. No one really knew whether or not Trotz was going to be back with Washington. |

Flames dont spend big dollars on coaches & Trotz is going to get a pretty huge payday. Not sure I would have wanted to do that if I was the owner as well. He went from being on the cusp to being fired to winning it all.Trotz could come here, pay a brinks truck full of cash & have a worse record than what GG had. |

Fair, but he was on the brink of being fired despite a near-President's trophy winning season on the heels of 3 straight years in the playoffs (albeit 2nd round exits) and 62.5% winning percentage is pretty insane.
I mean, I will take that over the guy with a losing record that was going to be let go one way or another.
Anyways, we will see how this plays out |

It's never worth paying coaches big money because there are far, far more NHL quality coaches than there are NHL head coaching jobs. The impact from having the best coach in the world over a solid head coach is minimal.
Coaches that are elevated to greatness pretty much get there because of fantastic rosters. |

Dunno about that, I look at the rosters some coaches are handed and they are able to accomplish some pretty amazing things. If you'd said at the start of the year that Vegas would be a Cup finalist, you would have been laughed off of this forum. But Gallant, a coach who was fired despite his success in FLA, led this team effectively and got the most out of his players. Karlsson was a freaking 40 goal scorer coming out of nowhere this year.
Look at Florida under Gallant, they were 38-29 in his first year, 47-26 year 2, fired 20 games into year 3 and the team finished last year at 35-36-11 and 44-30-8 this year, missing the playoffs both seasons with a roster that has been largely static. Yes, when you have a team of studs, odds are good they will carry you for awhile, but you still need the right coach pushing the right buttons at the right time.
Yes, there are good coaches that fail as well, Quenneville being an example this year after a decade long run at or near the top of the conference and 3 Cups. If the feeling is that all coaches are more or less equal and have little bearing on the results, I don't buy it. Good coaches and good GM's know how to get the most out of what they have. If not, Gulutzan would still be coaching here... nevermind that, Hartley would still be coaching here.
I also hesitate to call Peters a solid coach when Carolina never made the playoffs with him as head coach. He might not have the horses to make a Cup run, but that team, outside of goaltending, has not had a terrible roster.
Peters' last real success was 10 years ago in the WHL. If you're comparing his history to that of Trotz, it's not close. Since 2003, he's missed the playoffs 3 times in 14 years, and some of those rosters were... ugly. |

Besides the first year he made the playoffs, he's always had great rosters, and more importantly great, consistent goaltending. If anything Trotz's teams have been major underachievers until this year.
And Gallant just proves my point. How many people would have called him a top 10 coach going into last season? |

A bunch around the league actually, he had high praise and no one understood why he was let go and knew he would rebound quickly, which he did.

As for Nashville history, the single best player he ever had was Kariya, and that was for 2 seasons. He got a broken Forsberg and developed guys like Rinne, Weber, Suter, these guys were not all due to become upper echelon players. He had solid rosters/players, but never had an Ovy/Crosby/McDavid in their prime
Weber, 2nd rounder
Rinne, 8th rounder
Suter was the legit 1st rounder |
