Acquiring all of Eichel's old college buddies is a novel strategy... said nobody ever. Seriously. All signs point to the Sabres paying whatever price necessary to acquire his boy Hanifin, so he can get a 3-seater to ride around with Rhino.

I like Hanifin, but I am just wondering if no price is too great to pay?

Wasn’t Fashing one of the “studs” Garth identified three years ago when Babcock spurned the Sabres for the Leafs? Now just a throw in. Lol

Did he really say he was a stud? Serious question; because that would be hilarious if he did considering now he's just a spare part.

I must admit I fail to see the problem with acquiring players that played at BU, They have been consistently one of the best college teams in the country. People complain that the Sabre's don't have anyone who knows what it takes to win, Players from BU know how to win. If you bring in 10 and 5 hit, I can live with that average. Tell me you wouldn't take Charlie McAvoy?

It isn't just that they are from BU, but that isn't the only winning program out there. Not to mention, how about some players from a winning NHL franchise. Botterill has made two trades so far and in both of those deals he acquired BU supporting cast players... not potential franchise pillars like Eichel and maybe McAvoy. That being said, better to see them come from BU than losing programs... I will agree with that.

Absolutely zilch wrong with acquiring Hanifin. Ditto acquiring Eichel’s friends that play good hockey.

Botterill has done a pretty good job so far. He doesn’t overpay like Murray either. Only bad trade he’s made is that 3rd rounder for Beaulieu. Kane trade was bad but that’s about all anyone could squeeze out of the troubled star.

He’s made more than two trades so far. Got to learn to count bud. Basically raped the Wild for Scandella.

So every trade made has to have a franchise pillar involved in it? No GM has done that or will do that.

He’s building the team from basically the bottom up. Takes time. Patience is a virtue. Unless you want to GMTM this thing again.

Fashing was one of the sublime talents Garth identified during his childlike rant on Babcock after the latter signed with TO. I could find it but I don’t have time.

This is a few quotes from Garth about him

"My guess is that Fasching will not have a problem making the jump to the NHL. He has played alongside and against mature, older men in the B1G 10 Conference of NCAA the past few seasons."

"Fasching is a plug and play NHLer. His size and skating abilities make him an exceptional NHL prospect. "

So yes, as usual same as Freakerenko

Didn’t say stud but did mention he was a can’t miss prospect.

Not 1 single teams in the league has a roster full of "Franchise Pillars", but the teams that win Championships win them because of the solid supporting cast/role players, So if we are acquiring players who can be (hopefully) responsible players to fill in around Eichel, Mittlestadt, Dahlin, then we are heading in the right direction. GMJB did bring in a couple players from winning teams, Wilson from Pittsburgh, Scandella from Minnesota (no championship, but playoffs every year), so he starting to fill in the blanks with players who have had success.

It was hoped that Facshing would be a solid player when he came from Minnesota and Garth has a habit of looking to the ceiling when talking about a players potential. I am thinking he will always think the best of a player until said player proves otherwise. I don't see that as a bad thing. It sure beats the alternative of coming on here and just bashing everything Garth says and not adding anything meaningful to the conversation.
