This from a die hard Avs fan...we sucked donkey balls two years ago and made the playoffs last year. Yeah it can be done. Might need a new head coach though... |

Not the same situation at all. Avs already had a 1st overall pick with MacKinnon, 2nd overall pick with Landeskog and high draft picks in other drafts that were already in the system or with the big club.
Wings don't really have the elite talent yet to build around. They still need to build a core and that likely won't be done with the last 2 drafts and this one. They don't have much on defense if anything to build around yet. They still need a goalie of the future since they have absolutely nothing in the system worth a damn. They also still lack a center (or two) and wingers at the forward position.

As long as it’s not an NHL game. He misses Datsyuk very much. |

True, but Larkin and Mantha are great pieces. Holland got a hell of a haul for Tatar, so he has some extra picks he can use to acquire some of those pieces. Halak is a UFA and would be an ok fit on a 1 year or 2 year deal. |

Agreed on Halak.
Larkin and Mantha are Ratty and Landy in my opinion. Not a MacKinnon. We have no Varly or Barrie. You guys win. |

Yay! True, the Wings D needs a serious upgrade. Jaro could be a good stop-gap option for a year or two until someone else comes up the pipeline |

On paper right now the Tatar deal looks great but for me it all depends on what they do with those picks. If they don't even end up with 1 good NHL player, is it still a great trade? It is going to take years before we know what this deal really boils down to given how spaced out the picks are.
Even with signing Halak they still need to find a #1 goalie at some point in the future although goalies aren't the most expensive players to trade for if need be.
The biggest issue right now is that horrible defense and the fact the Wings can't draft a good defenseman to save their lives. They need this draft to yield one or two top end defensemen which is kind of why i hope they pick a defenseman at 6th overall and maybe with the 30th too. I hope with the late 1st or early 2nd rounders they swing for the fences for a guy like Merkley (if he's still on the board) or something like that instead of going for a safe pick that doesn't have a high ceiling but is more probable to be a depth NHL player. |
