Todd Cordell: On Ryan Huska's expected promotion to the Calgary Flames - ToddCordellCGY
Thanks for the update Todd. I agree he should get a shot up with the big club. He's done well considering our AHL team has been a player carrousel for him the last few years.
I'd be interested to know who you think would be a good replacement for him. Promoting Cail seems like a good idea to me for now anyways. |

Great news for Ryan and the young Flames prospects playing in Stockton. I only hope that the Flames don't resign veterans and give the kids a shot. I am curious to see what type of system and players the Flames will play this year. I certainly hope they take a page from Vegas and but speed up and down the forward units. If they do that plus the mobile, offensive defense corps the Flames already have I think they can get back into the playoffs and maybe even make some noise.
Hopefully we end the truculent era, although I would like to see the Flames make a hockey trade by trading a defensemen to add a couple of YOUNGER, FAST, SKILLED forwards.
I'm wondering what the Flames knows or think about Car. Sergey Tolchinsky, or NJD Stefan Noesen, Det. Martin Frk, Mtl. Logan Shaw, Wpg. Joel Armia would or could any of them be a William Karlsson type players? |

Another aspect of both the new coach and Huska is their ability to identify players who are underutilized in other organizations.
A great example is Sutter, he came from San Jose and got the Flames to trade for a 3rd string San Jose goalie name Miikka Kiprusoff.
Peter knows Carolina and there minor league system plus he knows the players on teams in the east. Maybe he is able to put on the radar a diamond in the rough or a player that is being underutilized.
The same hold true for Huska, he knows the players in the AHL and maybe that knowledge can help the Flames find a young player with a great upside potential that's playing in the AHL. |

I think this would be a good hire, Huska seems like a soft spoken guy and a coach who doesn’t value yelling. Could be a good balance with Peters demanding attitude. |

Is it time for the draft yet ......BT will make a big trade then ...not sure if I’m excited for it or scared lol |

What? The Flames have been one of the least truculent teams in the league for a while now.

Accurate!
Need someone that can enforce and play at the NHL level on this roster. Johnny and Mony getting hacked to bits, goalies getting run, Brodie FLATTENED and the only consistent thing is that no one stands up for their teammates. No one responds.
Flames need a culture change in that regard for sure |

Engelland played top 3 minutes during the regular season and top 2 minutes in the playoffs for the team in the final. I said before the season that the Flames would miss him far more than anyone thought they would and they did.

This year for Vegas has been crazy
Good on Engelland for playing good but Let’s see how he does next year
My guess is he will have 12 points and be a -17 and finish the year as a healthy scratch |

Engelland is currently playing for the Stanley Cup and played a huge role on his team all year to get there. I always defended him when he was here and you're kidding yourself if you think the Flames didn't miss him this year.
Bollig and Glass can't really hang in the League anymore but that doesn't mean we don't need some toughness. |

Based on what? This year wasn't out of the blue for him. He did the exact same thing he did for the Flames the last couple years only his numbers went up because he was used more.

I guess your right ...I expect him to get used less next year ... I’m just not buying into this whole theory the knights are good now for the next while ....so many career years cannot be repeated and I believe Engelland will be one of those to dip down

I think it’s an easy narrative to come up with
The flames missed a healthy mike smith and a healthy Kris Versteeg on the pp More than a 3rd pairing D man

Actually not to bad so far. We're still in spring here, but Victoria's a god damn Paradise. So that parts good.

Not to mention it took 53 games before GG put Dougie on the first PP pairing.. 🙄 |

Not saying the Flames having Engelland would have meant playoffs last year, but they missed him infinitely more than they ever missed Versteeg.
