Great post Todd, always great to read what you have to say.
I have a couple concerns for our new coach Bill Peters.
1. The co-captaincy instated in Carolina during his tenure. To me, this decision scares me as it is an indicator of poor choices but maybe doing a co-captaincy isn't as dumb as it sounds?
2. He is suppose to give young players a chance. In the last game he coached CAN vs USA for IIHF Bronze he gave these young forwards the following ice time:
Pierre-Luc Dubois - 7:11 TOI
Tyson Jost - 6:29 TOI
Thomas Chabot - 7:39 TOI
Matt Barzal - 12:48 TOI
That doesn't look like much of a chance to me. Granted its just one game but it still concerns me.

I would be open to seeing a deal where say Brodie goes in a package for scoring up front and we see more of our D prospects get ice time ....could a rookie D men look that much worse than our second pairing last year ? |

I don't think a co-captaincy is a big deal at all. Who is Vegas' captain? Look where they are.
As for No. 2, I think Jost was legitimately one of the worst players on the roster so it makes sense he wouldn't play much. Chabot more than 7 for sure but there are more established guys (Vlasic, Ekblad, etc.) that will obviously see more ice so I don't think that's a big deal either.
I do agree on Dubois and Barzal. The latter especially. He is an absolute weapon. I'd be giving him 16-17+ even on a stacked Canada team.
It's hard to make much of one game with a medal on the line, though. If you don't think someone is playing well, you're making the leash short. |

I'm curious if we sign any guys from ANA/CGY. Can Versteeg be a viable option as a third liner/trigger man on PP? Or is he done? |

I think you’re overthinking here
It’s going to be a long summer if a bronze medal game in a meaningless tournament has you worried Bout how a coach will handle players who were not involved in this tournament

The other question I would have is were those guys taking the tourney seriously? A lot of guys use it as a free trip. Maybe Peters was punishing them for something we never saw. |

At the end of the day we need someone in that spot and Versteeg would be cheap. I just don't know if we are still mad at him for leaving after the last pto |

You are likely right but i guess we will see what happens when the names change from Barzal and Dubois to Bennett and Jankowski. |

If you're expecting Bill Peters to be giving his young guys a shot, you're looking in the wrong place. |

If you're concerned with World Championship stats, consider that it was once again a Bill Peters coached team that had poor goaltending and scored almost half of their goals in 2 games.
Outside of the games against Korea and Denmark, a team with McDavid, Barzal, Eberle, RNH, Horvat and O'Reilly managed to score less than 3 goals per game on average.
That sounds like Bill Peters hockey to me. |

he's gonna do the same poop he did in Carolina, screw over his top 6 guys by attaching an anchor to them just so he can have a better 3rd line. Brouwer is gonna end up in the top 6. |

I think Hathaway and shore would be okay as well but not at the suggested salaries. They are somewhere around, maybe a bit above nhl min players. |
