Hey Trevor, welcome.
Sens better take Tkachuk and have a big & skilled USA line:

Hi Trevor,
As I said in my previous post, welcome. I look forward to your fresh content.
So your idea of trading down, I am totally on board for but only if they can get whalstrom. The guy was a beast in the USHL.
It's going to have to be draft day deal and I don't mind picking within the top 9 if they can get an additional pick and can get that kid.
Other than that, take Brady and move on. He's going to be an NHLer. How good? We don't know. But bloodlines and history suggest a pretty good top 9 winger as early as next year. |

In theory, it sounds great. I just worry that Brady isn't going to be as good as his brother Matthew. |

All those 1st rounders for an average 4th line. |

If the Senators were to trade down in the draft from the #4 spot, I would suggest there might be two 'most likely' scenarios...
1) To NY Rangers for the #9 overall pick and the #30 overall pick
2) To Chicago for the #8 overall pick and F Anthony Duclair
In the first scenario, they would acquire another late 1st round pick, but move outside of what I would consider to be the real 2nd tier in the draft... which includes Boqvist, Tkachuk, Hughes, Bouchard, and Wahlstrom. However, if the scouting staff has identified the likes of Dobson or Smith as having comparable potential, then you might see them aim for this kind of deal.
In the second scenario, they would stay inside that 2nd tier I alluded to, and also bring in a forward that Ottawa has seemingly always been linked to in rumours. Duclair really didn't seem to fit in all that well with the Blackhawks, and given his RFA status this off-season it's possible that they might be wiling to part with him in this kind of a deal.
Factor in the rather urgent need for Dorion to make next year's team better out of the gate while on a tight budget, and I think the second scenario is the kind of move that might actually be more likely... particularly if Chicago really have their eye on the likes of Tkachuk or one of Boqvist/Hughes, who are unlikely to be available at the #8 spot. |

I personally love the trade down idea...
I'd trade the #4 to the NYR for #9, #26 and the OTT 2nd 2018
Then pick up whomever falls to you at #9 and draft another D with one of the 22 or 26 depending on who's on the board... |

rangers traded the ott 2nd?
i'd say 9, 26 and 39 would be a premium price to pay for the 4th. i don't the sens should move down for less than a premium price. |

That's not always true, Trading Brassard, cleared up cap room, got us a very good goalie prospect and some more building blocks for the future.
We ended up giving up a lot, but I'm still happy we have Duchene, him and Hoffman make our top line extremely competitive, especially if Ryan could ever keep his fingers not broken.
I actually wish they would get a bit more aggressive when it comes to trades. But on the other hand you are right and I know we've talked about his before but I do not trust PD |

Steve Yzerman and Ron Francis were #4 overall picks. I expect nothing less from the Sens selection. |

But Brassard is a by produce of trading Zibby. If the Sens would have stayed pat and didnt do what have have done twice and potentially a 3rd time in Karlsson, arguably they would be in a much better spot long term if they kept their own
Trade guys away to get an extra year or 2 of contract security bc they do not want to pay them their market value to resign and stay a Sen. Whatever Eugenes problem is...Alfie, Zibby, Turris, Karlsson, as soon as a guy doesnt want to take a pay cut he is out |

DET owns the OTT 2nd from the B. Smith trade at the 2017 deadline. |
