Rick Carpinello of "The Athletic" reported around 10:00 pm E.T. Friday night that, Quinn had been interviewed and "IS WELL ALONG IN THE PROCESS" to become Rangers Head Coach, according to multiple reports. He added, "A SOURCE* confirmed the Rangers interview of Quinn to The Athletic, though it doesn't appear that Quinn's hiring is certain or imminent."
*That SOURCE is Bob McKenzie, who said shortly before 8:00 pm Friday, "Gorton is in Denmark at the World Championships right now, and so NOTHING is believed to be IMMINENT. Quinn has already interviewed with the Rangers, and appears to be their PRIMARY target".
But very late Friday night on NHL Network, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet said that "talks between Quinn & the Rangers were heating up, & a CONTRACT MAY HAVE BEEN OFFERED".
So the situation is still as confusing as it has been since some friends of Quinn had said some days back that he told them he would remain as Head Coach of B.U. Furthermore, it has been known that Quinn has said in the past that he "has the best job in ALL OF hockey, and it would TAKE SOMETHING SPECIAL for him to leave B.U."
Does an NHL head coaching job available as close to Massachusetts as of now with the Rangers qualify enough for him as being "SOMETHING SPECIAL", in addition to the extra income that comes along with it? If Friedman's late Friday night words do become factual, then Gorton & Company, despite Gorton currently in Denmark at the World Championships, better get a straight YES or NO answer from Quinn very soon. There's little time remaining for his indecisiveness & waiting games, with the Rangers being the only NHL team currently without a Head Coach.
Due to Quinn's indecisiveness, I would still opt first to try and get the Capitals approval to talk to their Assistant Coach, Todd Reirdon, for reasons I mentioned on the prior blog and earlier ones. But that will have to wait until their postseason ends, which would also be the absolute latest the Rangers can wait for Quinn's decision, especially should Reirdon not become an option. |

I'm with you, Tom, and would not have Quinn as my first choice, due to his indecisiveness alone in playing waiting games with them.
As per that line I wrote in stating that Quinn had said in the past that it would take "SOMETHING SPECIAL" to have him leave "THE BEST JOB IN HOCKEY" at B.U., he obviously thinks there is a much greater "SPECIAL" job awaiting him somewhere else, as per his decision delay. What job, and for as much income as a Rangers head coaching one, with them being the only NHL team currently without a head coach? That doesn't sound like a coach who really want to be here, and whose duties would be affected by that tune.
My first choice, especially with Keefe now likely out, would be to wait until the Capitals season ends, to possibly gain permission from them to talk to Todd Reirdon. |

I think Keefe was the 1st choice. I don’t believe RANgers where waiting on Quinn as much as He was waiting on team. My guess is Keefe is staying with Marlies with him eventually becoming Leafs HC. With the new, young Gm there, wouldn’t surprise me Rangers and Leafs had talked and Dubas let them know that Keefe is in their future plans |

Way too much being made about Quinn's 'indecisiveness", he's not a retread and he's a highly thought of coach, I think it was between him Reirden then Keefe, I have no problem with our next head coach, I will in 3 years |

Brian Trottier wrote a 78 page thesis on coaching trying to get the job with NYR... was desperate for the job... and got it... I'm ok with some being a little indecisive of a job change and moving his family 2 hours down the road. I'm ok as long as he takes the job when offered.

Told by two sources that Quinn has signaled that he wants the Ranger job and that barring a negotiating breakdown, it's his. Gorton due back Monday from Denmark. |

Over under on fans wanting him fired is November
Edit: at least it’s a fresh guy. Not a retread like Lindy. If anyone judges this guy negatively before December, I’m going to lose my mind haha |

Has anyone Quinn coached made it big in the NHL? Not asking for McDavid type guy lol but who has been a solid NHL player or players. Hayes and Kreider went to BC right?
Edit: hmmm Tkachuk played for him I wonder if they make a play to move up and draft him. That aspect of the hire is very intriguing |
