McLeod will be a beast...
If we can get Toews for cheap, like a steal, should we? His defensive game is pretty good. |

How much did his knee injury play into these numbers though? I don't think he's a write off yet. He could be a Scheifele-lite |

His injury probably played a big part in that. Lets judge by this year coming up. |

I'm not writing him off but Scheifele had 79 points in 45 games in his D+2 year. Not even close. |

Yeah, I said Scheifele-lite. Their D+1 seasons are comparable and Scheifele didn't have a knee injury that limited him in his D+2. I wouldn't expect it to be close. |

Don't you think ts funny how the NHL thought Kovy's long contract was BS, but the $250K penalty runs just as long.

I’ll wait till I see him in the NHL. |

We would have paid Kovy $10M this year and $11.8M last year. The Cap hit was relatively manageable at $ 6.66M
That was some contract. |

Anybody think we should go after some good secondary scoring in free agency? Guys like Jordan Eberle or James Neal perhaps? |

ya he will not climb to the ranks of Schiefs. That e/60 stat is very alarming.... Hoping for a solid bounce back. Aside from Hisch, our higher 1st rounders have been severly under whelming. Mcleod at 12th, Zacha (6th) is looking like a 3rd liner at best, Quinville (30th) looks like a bottom 6 forward, Matteau (29th) nothing need to be said about that one. The only other 2 first rounders going back to 2011 were trades i feel we won by a landslide. Bo Horvat for schneids, and Larsson for Hall. But yikes, we can not find first round talent unless we draft first overall..... |

I don't disagree but Zacha and McLeod need at least one more season before we can really evaluate them. Guys aren't really given much time anymore to develop but we can't expect quick results from all our prospects. |

For sure. Zacha had some great games. Consistency was a big issue that may just take time. The kids are young. But those Mcleod stats sure were alarming. |

You must be thinking about the Bettman fine. After the arbitrator ruled that the Devils didn't do anything wrong, Bettman fined the team something like 3mil and forfeiture of the 1st round draft pick within the three years. When he retired there is some rule about amount of salary remaining that wasn't paid so there was a recapture penalty that would be paid each season until the completion of the contract. It is a fine, just for a different reason.
It would be nice for Kovalchuk to have stayed with the team, but ultimately he would have been very costly and the contract length was obviously absurd. |

I read that article! I wonder if he is the "un-named player" they are talking about. How pathetic would that be! |
