I would love to see Tavares come to Buffalo and have been hoping all season for that possibility to come to fruition. That being said, rumors have it that if JT were to leave the Islanders it would be a sign and trade deal allowing him to get the 8th year on his new contract. If that is the case, I think ROR is a likely piece of a package heading to New York in return. Reminds an old guy like me of the Turgeon for LaFontaine deal! Turgeon had more upside than ROR, but one could argue that Pat LaFontaine was also more dynamic than John Tavares... hard to say, different era of hockey.

If he wants to win now why join a team that is just going to start going up. They won't be playoff contenders for a couple years and cup contenders for a few years after that.

How old will he be by the time Buffalo is legit ready to compete. If he wants to win a cup he needs to go to a team that can afford him long term and is in a top 10 ranking in the league to win now.

And yes that means Toronto is also out of the picture.

I think Toronto and Montreal would be the best fits Johnny T....Maybe Vegas just because I being swept up in rooting for them.

As a Leaf fan I just have to say he isn't going to Buffalo. Or Toronto. Or any of the other cities you mentioned. I would be very surprised if he didn't stay an Islander.

Who the (frank) wakes up and says ‘I’m tired of losing and can play anywhere! I should go to Buffalo?’

All these bs ‘connections’. His uncle played Lacrosse in Buffalo. His sister stayed at a Holiday Inn with a data port in LeRoy... really?!

On the plus side you can probably swing a trade for Jimmy Vesey now and the Blueskirts are open for business.

And nobody is doing a sign and trade. If you’re leaving the Islanders to go to a winner your not costing your future team assets. J.T. will be signable at 34 so the 8th year is irrelevant. Not to mention he probably hates Garth Snow.

Funny no mention of the Rangers. One of the league leaders in wins over last 5 seasons, made a smart move to sacrifice last season for a minor retool. Still have a solid core of forwards. Adding a true #1C will have ripple effects up and down lineup. Current 1 and 2, Zib and Hayes... both just hitting their prime years. Would be 2 and 3c. Gorton has positioned Rangers perfectly for now and future. Cashed in a bunch of guys not in future plans for younger, faster players. 2first round picks last year and 3 this year. Tavares wants a big market? A team that will always do what it takes to be in playoffs every year? He’s seen 1st hand while playing for Isles who NYs real team is
Buffalo? “Don’t be fooled by 31st place finish”???? Lmao

Apparently from my sources his Great Great Great Great Great Uncle Jebediah Tavares was a legendary trapper in around the Buffalo area back in the day! I mean... if that doesn't sway his decision to sign with the Sabres, then I don't know what will!

Anyone know if Tavares has an affinity for Jorts?

Suffice to say, there are several NHL teams circling Camp Tavares. Among them are the San Jose Sharks, Nashville Predators, Anaheim Ducks, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vegas Golden Knights, Vancouver Canucks, and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Add another contender to the growing list of the Tavares suitors: The Buffalo Sabres.

On a positive Buffalo note, Ryan O'Reilly just won the game for Canada at the World Championships. Maybe Garth can write about it tomorrow since you know, it actually concerns someone on his team?

He listed half the NHL as landing pads for Tavares, but declined to put Toronto on the list. I don't think he's going to Toronto, but if you're going to include Vancouver and Buffalo on the list, I mean, his hometown could be on the list too no?

Sounds as though you are "butt hurt" for not being mentioned...

It isn't ALL about you guy.

Furthermore, given the substantial raises coming for the big 3, you will have a lot less wiggle room. Adding JT is feasible, but essentially means you aren't upgrading your defense any time soon, which ultimately is what your team needs to succeed.

Not at all. I don't think we need two 10 million dollar centres. We need Defense. Garth just looks foolish for not including Toronto.

Makes no sense, what exactly has Buffalo done to be included in the list ? they actually took steps backwards. At least TOR has made the playoffs recently.

and I'm not TOR fan, just looking at Garth's stupidity

I actually think New Jersey would be the best place for him. He and Hall on separate lines could turn them into offensive juggernauts.
