it would be sweet if he could make it to the top pairing...i'm just hoping that he'll end up being a Niklas Hjalmarsson-type second-pairing d-man

He's in a good position as the second-best RD (unless Bogo can regain his form) on this team

I see us having 2 Norris trophy candidates for the next decade, and I’m trying to keep my expectations low

The Panthers one is probably the best one. Trocheck is the real deal and he's young. Plus 2 (likely) high-ish picks. Unless they somehow get their poop together next year. Plus Vatrano might maybe turn into something. He's young yet too. If they think they're going in the right direction they'd have to add at least another 1st though.

They also have no money, ROR's contract structure is a no go.

Edit: I don't mean cap by the way, I mean the owner is literally too cheap for this deal

We can easily retain 1.5m

Dude, the Panthers had the most points ever by a non-playoff team this season

Their poop is together, except for letting Gallant go the way they did. If they would have kept him, they would have been top of the conference this season.

Those picks would not be high.

they had a 100 point season the year before...they cast tallon aside as well but moved him back into the gm role...

that said, I don't see fla as a good fit for trade

So, read the last sentence. The Hurricanes are always on the cusp too.

Me neither.

Any talk of trading the #1 pick for anyone other than McDavid is madness. And that scenario itself is madness.

The Panthers are going in the right direction.

About 1,800 miles Northeast.

Neither do I, but if I had to pick one from that bunch that's the one it would be, easily. Trocheck is just hitting his peak. As opposed to Doughty and Karlsson on the downside, and by downside I mean not getting any better and almost 30. Karlsson will be 28 and a half at the start of the season and Doughty 29 in December, and Doughty plays a tough game. Karlsson might play out the contract, but injuries might be starting to catch up to him. I just don't see them as a fit for this Sabres team, for the number 1 pick. I'd still take a run at them in UFA.

No. To all of them.

(frank) No.

Yep.

Like an hour after the lottery I saw a "How the Hurricanes can trade for #1" something to that effect.

The only way I could see it happening was for #2, + + (Hanifin and Skinner?)

I guess that's another way of saying there's no way they're trading the pick. I think Botts takes the easy choice on this one
