we won't really know...but players like that are freebies...if they work out, great...if not, it cost little save for some time and salary

I never had a problem with the trade for Kulikov...what happened afterward sucked but Pysyk was no wonderboy in my book, so...whatever

He was no wonderboy to me either, but he was smarter and better built for this era of hockey than kulikov.

Pilut brings something similar but offensively minded. If you're looking for hits, battles in front of the net and shot blocking, you will be disappointed .

Pilut seems like a real nice pick-up for the Sabres. Hopefully Botts gets Asplund signed and over here with the rest of his new Swedish teammates. I count 4 entering the organization - Dahlin, Asplund, Pilut and Olofsson.

from what I gathered, the problem with Pysyk was that he was too squeamish about jumping into the play despite his mobility and instincts....pilut seems to be the opposite

Nice work, mr. Pachla. Didn't know anything about the kid. The Antipin experience kinda dampened my enthusiasm for these type of acquisitions, but hey - free is free.

Any word on whether it will be a 1-way or two-way deal?

nope...hopefully a two-way deal...he and olofsson can hit Rochester at the same time and can hang with johansson

I hope so too, for his sake and his longevity in NA. If not though, that should say something about Botterill's intentions to move a couple dmen.

It's hard to say... he "joined" before the lottery win so at the point his competition wasn't stiff and might have been the selling point.

Agreed, pilut will move the puck and jump in on the rush...i just wouldn't expect all that much defensively.

These guys are highly sought after. I can't imagine a 2 way deal for any premium UDFA. They'll be waiver exempt, though, so it's insignificant.

good point...as long as there's no "NHL or nothing" clause in his contract i'd have no problem with a one-way

That's a very Russian clause. You don't see that kind of thing with the Scandies. But yeah, definitely.

It helps that he's 22. There's still some time there for a bit of AHL development.

Great write up. These kids seem like winners with good attitudes hopefully an influx of young talent into the room changes the atmosphere.

You develop his defensive positioning and I think you end up with a better pissick. I'm in for that.
