Well, it's one extreme or the other. The officials have only two speeds - call everything or call nothing.
Remember Game 7 in 2011 (Bolts-Bruins)? No a single penalty was called - despite some blatant ones by both sides. Until that day, I had never seen a game without a single penalty called, ever. And I haven't seen one since. It really makes one want to put on the tinfoil hat. |

Sure, Tampa Bay has been by far the more disciplined team in the series
I think ya answered your own question there. Both sides have missed calls. It looks like the league is weaning the refs favoritism for Boston cold turkey...of course there will be tears. |

Yes they've been more disciplined, but they've gotten away with much more than the Bruins have. So I guess you can say the two even each other out? I guess I just miss the old days where once the playoffs came, whistles went away

Right with you there. I can't recall another game where this happened.

When you stand around watching the other team it's hard to draw penalties. |

The Bruins are being dominated in every facet of the game. We're going whine about the (frank)ing refs!!?

Coming into the playoffs, the Lightning's penalty kill was a HUGE concern. One of the worst in the league. In order for the Lightning to advance through the playoffs they either had to tighten up the penalty kill or stop taking so many damn penalties.
The players with the most penalty minutes per game for the Bolts during the regular season were 1. Stamkos, 2. Dotchin and 3(tied). Conacher. Notice how you haven't seen Dotchin at all in the playoffs and Conacher for only one game against NJ. That's a big reason why the Bolts are more disciplined.
You can blame the officials for the Bruins being down 2 games to 1 if it makes you feel better. But the Bolts know from the regular season that Penalties=Lose |

Just pointing out numbers.
Maple Leafs fans would ignore the fact that their team is turning the puck over at an alarming rate, their third and fourth lines have been ghost in the series and lastly that their defense has been an absolute mess.
At least you guys recognize the above
Don't. Just don't take this vaginal narrative. We're not Toronto and don't make us (frank)ing sound like it. - glove_was_stuck |

Exactly. Tampa, with a relentless forecheck has completely frustrated the Bruins and their D. Grzelcyk is completely out to lunch in this series.
Rask was the only thing standing between the Bruins being handily beat or absolutely blown out the past two games. The only glaring error I saw against the Bruins by the refs was the Marchand breakaway in game #2. Besides that it's been give and take on both sides imo. |

You beat the Leafs, get over it. Leafs have been gone for a week, yet you still feel the need to bring them up? sad |

Why is everyone so naive to the fact that the NHL is sports ENTERTAINMENT. Just like wrestling. It is ruled by the all mighty dollar. The officials are on the ice to dictate the game. The playoffs are determined by the revenue and revenue is generated from the story lines. The two teams that would produce the most media coverage for the finals will be the two that make it. Team owners make most of their revenue from the gate sales. So making Toronto and Boston go 7 gave both owners the maximum amount of revenue for their expect playoff lifespan. Toronto or Boston weren't going farther than second round. Tampa and Boston will battle it out to play Pittsburgh for the east. Pittsburgh and Vegas would draw the most headlines for a final. Fleury and the castaway Knights will battle the Penguins and their quest for a three peat.
Back to the refs. Long ago we only had one ref to manage the games. But the fans cried because of all the missed calls. So the league decided to add a forth official. This was suppose to eliminate all of the missed calls. Really? There are more "missed" calls now than ever before. And now we have the situation room decided things on the ice from their secret office using camera angels that not everyone is privy to. And they still blow calls. Hmmm???
The problem with the Bruins is they are that good. The can dominate a game when they are allowed to get in their groove. They are clearly frustrated because of the things they can't control (the garbage reffing) Their last two games were horrible. All year long this team has been tenacious no matter the score (ie being down a goal or 2 or even 3). They are tired, injured and frustrated.
This team scares the league. They can beat anyone if its an evenly called game. I don't think they were suppose to make it out of the first round. After all, Matthews has the top selling jersey. But they beat the Leafs even with the officials against them. The league is not going to let that happen a second time.

wow I love conspiracy theories. (double checks tin foil in hat)
The bruins arent controlling the pace of the play, the Lightning are. couldnt be a better example than when McQuaid was pressured into a bad pass resulting in goal #3. |

That totally explains Nashville making it last year. Or the Sharks the year before. Or Tampa in 15'. Or the Devils in 12'..................

I can see some validity in the league wanting the Leafs over the Bruins. But you really think the league would then want Tampa over the city of Boston? That's where your conspiracy theory loses value.
