With the explanation from the round 1 hits, his head moves independent of his body, meaning that the principal contact was made to the head - the NHL definition not mine. So I am confused.

Why would the NHL suspend a hit the NHL paid for?

I mean, its not like Wilson made the head the principal point of contact by skating into Doumolin from behind so he couldn't defend himself...oh wait....meh, I guess since he didn't physically separate Doumolin's head from his body, its all good. Right? Right?

Wilson often crosses the line with his hits. Many times I've seen where he seems to have had "intent to injure", but I don't think this is one of those times. Dumoulin is recoiling/turning away from the hit that Ovi is about to lay on him, he turned right into the trailing Wilson's shoulder. Wilson was just skating into him with his arm down, he didn't raise his arm/elbow into the hit. He wasn't aiming for a head shot, Dumoulin, unfortunately, in trying to protect himself from a hit wound up putting his head in an even worse spot. The only thing you could question was if Wilson had time to veer off after Dumoulin turned towards him. Idk if he could've, it happened pretty damn fast.

Department of player safety has zero consistency just as the rest of the league's officiating has been this postseason. Unfortunate for the players and fans to have to deal with a league that is so poorly operated.

The leagues inconsistency is just crazy anymore. I have seen about 5 dirty ass hits waaaayyyy worse than Doughty's that have gone without suspension.

It is a penalty if you do a stick lift at times, but a defenceman can sit in front of the net and crosscheck a forward into oblivion.

The NHL digs itself into a huge hole by making everything subjective. The headshot rule should be like the puck over the glass rule. If you throw a hit and your primary point of contact is the head, it is a penalty/suspension.

A high stick is a high stick regardless of intent. Headshots should be policed the same or not at all.

Definitely primary contact to head. But man when a guy is following a guy and he suddenly pulls up there was no time to avoid contact. Could have possibly lowered himself to not hit the head. I think their big thing was intent. It was just a really quick play and Doumolin caused it by pulling up.

I concur with the statement that Wilson crosses the line many times.
Watching this tho, it looks like Dumolin was staring to turn towards the boards when he saw Ovi. He pulled up on that turn and exposed his head to the side.
I think that he is lucky that Ovi held back instead of driving through.
That said, the DoPS does need to find consistency for all rulings!
Same for the "review" people!

The current rule 48 still leaves grey area. If what everyone wants is no hits to the head period, then make any and all contact to the head illegal. This whole thing of intent or principle point of contact is a half measure. It should be a hit to the head, and offense number x warrants punishment Y and it increases, exponentially for each additional offense. Draw it out clearly, as strict and severe as possible, and leave the inconsistency of the DoPS out of it.

Primary point of contact was the head.

Blaming the player that was hit in the head is ludicris.

Wilson has a history.

The NHL is COMPLETELY inconsistent.

I was actually in a basement league when I was in middle school(12 years ago), we had contracts and everything. Our 13 yr old comissioner was more concerned with head injuries than the NHL.

Since the league did nothing after Wennberg hit, it could do nothing after yesterday’s hit. The only way they could have had any grounds is if Doumolin had been carried off in a stretcher, and had been given a game misconduct. Joke.

Great so you want players getting hurt intentionally so they draw major penalties? The player changing body position right before a hit needs to have some responsibility for his own health.

So you blame the player who is being hit from behind and who has no idea the hit is coming instead on the guy delivering the blow. They were about 10 other things Wilson could have done there instead of hitting Dumo in the head. He knew exactly what he was doing. Its these "accidentally on purpose" hits that are always the most cowardly.

Wilson was going to hit him high, regardless. He didn't have time to change his trajectory. They only thing that surprisingly didn't happen was that Ovi didn't leave his feet like he normally does and kill both guys. It's gonna be a rough one for the refs when this comes to Pittsburgh. Rightly so. I hope we put 7 behind that loser Holtby and discard the Caps per usual.

They're about as consistent as goalie interference calls
