Anyone who watched the Devils this year saw a guy who took a team on his back and carried them to the playoffs. Mackinnon had a great year and will probably win the award but he clearly had more talent around him. If this award is truly for "the player judged to be the most valuable to his team" Hall should win it in a runaway. Unfortunately, just like the Norris and the Selke, the award isn't voted on the way it was intended. The Norris isn't for the best defenseman in the league anymore, it's for the defenseman who scores the most points. The Selke isn't for the best defensive forward, it's for the best defensive forward who scores a lot of points. Being that Taylor Hall plays for NJ the odds of him winning are slim to none.
