"Needless Hit" ???
Giroux caught Hagelin with his head down. There was nothing wrong with it.

Late, targeted the head, left his feet, contact was using his elbow... You sir, as a special little truffle

It's next to impossible to hit a guy at that speed on open ice and your feet don't come up a little from under you. You must be new to hockey. It was not late either, pick your head up coming around the net.

Brassard will stick with Sheary and Rust to start the series.

I like this trio. Sheary's been surprisingly decent so far and Rust just keeps on scoring

For Washington Andre Burakovsky is still listed as week to week and the skilled forward has an outside chance on playing in the series

Burakovsky was a big reason the Caps managed to win games 5&6 last year pushing the series to a deciding game 7. A lot of pressure is gonna be on Kuznetsov now - lets hope the pens can keep him off the board like last year.

I really really wish a saturday series start. Might not have mattered for Hagelin, but atleast the pens could have incr. the odds of Geno playing from the get-go

No Letang vs Caps last year, no Malkin this year....to start anyways.

Pens are capable despite Geno and Hags absences. Hopefully they start the game strong and silence the crowd...

...but remember folks, if they lose tomorrow night its not the end of the world. See 2009: lost both of the first 2 games in Wash....

I like Carl Hagelin, but I also like hockey, and the "needless" Giroux hit was a good, clean, hard hockey play -- unlike the late cross-check on Giroux a bit earlier that was a no-call. G told the refs after that play that they better not call any BS on him if he plays tough. And he did. And they didn't. Karma sucks.

I gotta agree that the hit on Hagelin was within the rules. When Ryan uses the word "needless" he, himself, is admitting that it was within the rules. The hit wasn't "necessary", but who cares. You're out there to hurt your opponent with every hit....not injure, but you want them to feel it.

Anyway, still like the Pens over the Caps. But, I do hope that Hagelin gets back after game 2.

It was late, over 2 seconds from leaving the puck, its not impossible either. If your crappy fanbase can argue ANYTHING against Crosby when he is 'dirty' than same for Giroux. Don't pretend hes incapable of skilled cheap shots, he is and did 2 suspendable worthy ones in the series alone.

Try again, I'll wait for your response from the mini golf course where your kind frequents.

Hopefully Geno is only out one game, missing Hags on top of it does not help at all but if Guentz can keep up his pace we will be ok.
As for the series, I honestly think its going to come down to how Holtby and Murray perform. Murray had a few rough games, bad rebound control, and some goals he should have had. every goalie has off nights but I do not think either one can afford to be anything but their best this series.. also I think the hit on Hags was clean, maybe a tad late but its the playoffs, let the men play and fans do the whining.

Seems the Pens fanbase is split on the Giroux hit so I'll interpret that as a clean hit. Speaking of dirty plays, how about the attempted Malkin slew foot, how'd he end up?

Maybe slightly late, but Hagelin was caught watching his own pass. I know from playing myself that anytime I'm coming from behind my net, even if I have to lower my head for any reason, my peripheral is always watching for a forechecker coming at me. In this case Hagelin takes two strong strides and accelerates right into Giroux.

Watch it at real speed. It was a fine hit with an unfortunate result. Hagelin cannot put himself in that position.

Oh joy Pens-Caps again, same ole same ole same ole situation.........

anyone else tired of this tune and yearly playoff series? Time for playoff format changes, division realignment....any/all the above?

Am I the only one that is going to tune this series out and wait for the next round?

Who cares about the Hagelin hit. Pens playing hockey and the Flyers are playing golf. Giroux might as well have started using the body. He sure was not showing up on the score sheet.

RW doesn't understand the game and wants every contact to be a penalty.

Clean good hit, hockey needs more of it. Keep your head up Hags.
