It seems like there are too many things up in the air about this team that if Peters can't put it all together, then we are in for another long season. |

Not necessarily a bad thing. If this team wallows in mediocrity for yet another season there will be mass change. If you haven't liked how this team has been run or put together this is a win win. Either the Flames perform well and meet their potential or everything changes next year under new management. Not ideal but at some point something has to give. |

Treliving & Peters arent stupid & know that an improved PP would have netted us at least an extra 10 points. Special teams is going to be a priority & if they hire some really good assistants, I think Flames will have no where but go up next year be right there for making the playoffs. Noticed he mentioned Janko, Gaudreau, Mony, Backlund, Frolik but he never mention Ferland or Bennett or any of the bottom 6 guys other than Brouwer. My take is Brouwer needs to have a pretty huge rebound year or I can see him getting the Lupul, Raymond type of treatment down in the AHL. He never mentioned Stone either, which was interesting seeing he was at the pressor.
Would love to see them hire Adam Oates for the PP coach. I felt Peters had way more presence than Gully ever had. I am prepared to step back & hope for the best with this hire. |

Priority for who? Brouwerplay and unadjusted half way through the season doesn't seem like much of a priority.

They devoted a ton of practice time to special teams this year. Saying something is a priority doesn't automatically make it better. |

Apparently practicing doesn't either, so I'm not exactly sure what you're getting at.
The organization has taken action to remove the weakest links. We no longer have the leagues worst PP Coach and the Head Coach that allowed it to continue. What more do you want?

Assuming Tre makes the necessary roster moves then I really like what Peters can pull off. Our D-Core is perfect for his coaching style and it sounds like he knows exactly what our core is capable of. He has no intention of splitting up Johnny and Mony (and why would he?) and seems to understand the kind of talent we'll have pushing for spots.
His openibg words are certainky encouraging, but we haven't actually seen him coach yet. Still, I'm cautiously optimistic. No point being doom and gloom without actually seeing him coach the team yet |

And that's one of the reasons the coaching staff is gone...

I thought you were the one that was advocating the coach & the power play. The PP sucked balls this year so how did it go? It didn't. I guess these moves is a start to addressing the specialty teams.

Everyone agreed Cameron had to go, but a lot of us didn't think Gully had to. Hell, I still don't. That said, I like Peters and I think he'll be good for us, but he alone isn't going to fix this team's problems. Especially since I don't think the coaching was a problem in the first place. Tre still has a lot more work to do. |

Bill Peters' Powerplay has consistently been among the worst in the league, operating around 17% during his entire tenure.
Actually just looked, it's 17.9% over the last 4 seasons combined.
The flames are the next worst in that list at 18%, though that's across several coaches.
Canes are one of only 6 teams operating below the 18% mark.
Only New Jersey, Arizona and Buffalo scored fewer goals than Carolina during the time Bill Peters was head coach. This despite Carolina being in the top 10 for shots for during that time.
Bill Peters has a system that creates shots, but not good shots. It also doesn't allow many shots against, but the ones it does allow are doozies. |

Really? See, everyone had the same complaint about Gully and the Flames. I looked it up, Calgary and Carolina were 3rd and 4th respectively in the league in terms of high danger scoring chances for.....Carolina was 17th in terms of high danger scoring chances against...seems like a decent recipe.

Sure, having Troy Brouwer practice on the PP is like banging your head against a wall. You can practice that all day long, but if he can't keep up, he can't keep up. |

I'm curious if most of you even know who Bill Peters is. There are plenty of reasons to look forward to him, but his Carolina team always had a crappy power play, and chances are extremely high that he'll be using Brouwer more than Gulutzan unless he completely changes his coaching mentality. He likes matching players like Brouwer with the skill players. Day one on the job and he was already talking up Brouwer. |

Well if he likes matching skill with players like Brouwer, Bennett may get a consistent chance with the big boys! |

Keep hearing talks of trading Dougie. I am not in favour of trading him but if he was traded for picks what could he fetch?
I have to believe he would get you a top 3 pick am I wrong and over valuing him?

And yet we were at the bottom of the league in terms of goals scored for 4 straight years. |
