Good move I guess. The downside to Peters is he seems to focus on his grinders so maybe as far as personnel goes, this might not be the best match given the offensive inclination up front. But not only does he have a decent goalie but a top defense. If they can fix this PP, Calgary should see a rebound next season regardless who theit top bench boss. |

Meh...
of the (available) coaches out there, he's the preferred candidate.
All I can say is that I hope we shed some dead weight, allow some of the guys in the farm a (real) chance to make this team and if having GG getting fired doesn't motivate the core of this team, we are destined to be perpetual under-achievers... |

Chances are pretty good we'll get a whole bunch of top-line Brouwer to complain about next year. |

I don't get why they rushed to get Peters. He did ok with Carolina but not great at all.
That being said, Calgary has a great roster. Going into this season I thought they would be a frontrunner in the West. They are a few tweaks away from being a contender. |

Good move.. fine coach ..I mentioned in an earlier post when Calgary fired their coach. .that Peters would be a great choice! .. has a great track record with youth..has won at the International level numerous times . .it'll be down to how affective his assistant coaches run the power play and penalty kill..this team will be returning to the post season next year! ..best of luck and congrats on the hire! |

Ya, what Tre does with the roster this offseason will be the real game changer. Whether it's GG, AV, Q, or Peters behind the bench the results could go either way. Proper depth and slotting, and a bit better luck with shooting% and they should be playoff bound next season. |

He did mention that Brouwer played for him in 08-09 in the AHL, had a lot of good things to say about him too...
I liked how he acknowledged Rasmus and said he has heard about him and he is ready to play |

Liked what he had to say, a lot about speed and attack.
Very optimistic |

Think your goaltending is good and deep enough? |

Why does everyone continue to gush over this roster....
The bottom six was brutal last year, along with the 2nd and 3rd pairings.
So much work to be done it's not even funny. |

Good? I would say average. Deep enough? Not even close. |

Because there are significant pieces:
-number one center in Monny
-superstar in Gadureau
-an elite first pairing
-a super skilled unique poop disturber like Tkachuk
We have the important pieces here, that I am confident. We were right in the playoff race up until all the significant injuries. The bottom 6 does need to be addressed, and guys like rasmus have to start replacing guys like stone. |

I agree we have some really good pieces. That's why there is hope for the team. But I really don't think the expectations should be that high until we see some of the moves that are made.
Sure they were in the playoff race for a while, but look at what happened to the bottom teams in the west. They couldn't even keep up with the good teams. Calgary would have been just another LA, Anaheim, Minnesota or Colorado. Gone without a whimper, just like last year. |

Mike Smith's play for the first half and bit also had a lot to do with this. If the Flames had gotten average goaltending the playoffs would have been ruled out in December. |

Work yes but the core is in place. It's much easier to plug and play bottom 6 forwards and find a third pairing D than say searching for top 6 talent or a right shot top D-man.
Of course I think the Oilers elite end is better than Calgary's and wouldn't give up watching McDavid for anything but the Flames are overall in a better position this off-season than Edmonton. |

That's Bill's go to move.
I would guess Monahan-Brouwer and Gaudreau-Jankowski are going to be things, while Backlund will be trying to carry a couple pure grinders on another line that will get more ice-time at even strength than any other.
Bennett will get 8 minutes per night if he doesn't score right away. |
