For every amazing pass Zacha makes there's three times as many plays where he doesn't hustle, plays soft on the puck, or passes up beautiful scoring chances with a pass that makes no sense. Zacha will frustrate us for years to come.. The dude had 25 points this season and was invisible in the playoffs. I really don't get what everyone sees in this guy. smh.

I dont see all those (frank)ups you mentioned but its important he gets every possible opportunity or he'll end up as Josefson 2.0. Which would be horrible because he does have lots of skill.

Nico passes on opportunities too. Lots of players do. Its a mental thing, once he overcomes it and figures it out he'll be unleashed.

He also has confidence issues. Nico also has more points in his one rookie season than Zacha has in his last two seasons combined. Zacha will max out as a 30 point player. Trade him while some teams think he still has good potential. The "elite" potential ceiling is non existent now with him. Good still exists though lol.

I say move Zajac to D, he's basically a defenseman already.

I think you are a bit harsh on Zacha, especially when comparing to Nico. Pavel did not have Hall on his left wing all year. As a matter of fact he was probably the only constant on the second line. Need to get him some consistent time with decent wingers. If he fails then, then i would say bust. But definitely not yet. A full season with johansson and a decent right winger will be the test. Would do wonders for Devs as well.

Nico had a Hart finalist next to him.. Keller on the Yotes.. Boeser on the Canucks.. who did they have helping them? the Sedins? Horvat? They're good, but not Hall-good. Barzal might've had easier matchups. But still.. I see Nico and there's Hall on his wing. They also convincingly bested Nico in points, while not having superstar linemates. I get what you're saying tho.

Without Nico:
72 games. 20 goals, 33 assists and -9

With Nico:
76 games. 39 goals, 54 assists and +14

Maybe a little over blown but it goes both ways. Hall wasn't a Hart candidate without Nico either. I'm also not saying Barzal doesn't deserve it. I think he does. I also think long term Nico will be a better two way player.

Its all about the benjamins. Really can't blame the guy regardless of where he goes. Why play your whole career for a team with no direction, on horrible ice, where your career could be cut short? If i was JT july 1st couldn't get here fast enough, the island might be the worst place to play in the NHL.

exactly. maybe next year he'll feel more confident so he makes those plays and plays harder. If not, then maybe he just doesn't have the drive to play in the NHL. In the rare years that we get top 10 picks we go and blow it on 6th overall.

but again.. maybe next year. .. and he's young.. so we'll see.

Pavel Zacha will go down in devils history as that one last kick in the nuts from the lamerillio/conte regime. Look at all the talent that we passed on to take this stiff. Try and find a sucker, maybe edmonton AGAIN, to give you something for him, think about it if mcleod is ready to make the jump to the NHL, he might not have a roster spot?

really screwed us. a franchise dman (to go with our franchise center Nico).. instead we're that 1 big piece short.

so our big fish options this offseason.., have 2 elite centers (works for Pitt, and would solve our secondary scoring issue), or have a top dman playing his off-wing.
If we get Tavares, maybe we're able to package Zacha, Quenneville, or McLeod for a top pairing LEFT handed dman.
I think Hischier needs Hall on his wing. Put Johansson and Bratt with Tavares and presto.

Lets keep those cheap/young contracts. Honestly Carlson would be fantastac ufa signing that we can afford. After that, Enstrom would be a solid 2M addition. He is a great passer, used to big minutes, and defensively responsible. Shoring up our back end and see what quenneville and Mcleod have to offer would be our best option.

Another right handed shot.. but who cares? Doughty and Vatanen top pair and bottom pair, holding down the right side, with that great puck movement. Severson would certainly be going the other way for Doughty. We'd be contenders for the next 5 years with that lineup.
