I really hope we trade Simmer this offseason. It has nothing to do with his performence (though that makes it a bit easier to justify a trade) and everything to do with the fact that he won't be worth the contract he most likely deserves. If we get anything close to Schenns deal, hell even a first + I say it's time to move him.

Well put, Jay.

I just want to see them upgrade in goal and turn Simmonds into younger assets this offseason

Jay,
It is so nice to read well reasoned and educated look so quickly after a season.
I agree with Simmonds being trade bait, and I might add Gudas. Letting Manning walk would also not be bad...bring on Morin and Myers.

I look forward to how year 4 of the program will play out. I can see the team making a deep push next year depending on injuries and how the Penguins hold up...maybe the Semi's? But more than a 1st round exit.

Good article, Jay.The Flyer plan shouldn't change as far as improving through our youth, but we need to bring in a couple of veteran players who can fill out lines 2 through 4 that have skill, speed and can put the puck in the net. No more Dale Weise or Jori Lehtera types. The goaltending should improve with Carter Hart, but we still need a quality, dependable backup as well.

Great article Jay! I'm absolutely disappointed with this series, but not with the long term picture. No need to panic and trade away top end talents, just let more future (hopefully) top end talents already signed to ELCs work their way into the lineup as more vets depart. There's probably another 1-3 years of mediocre goaltending in store, but Hart looks like the real deal, and there's no need to give away assets for a stop gap. The future is bright and a lot of our high end young guys just found out what its like to play a champion caliber team which will only help going forward.

Carter Hart is likely two AHL seasons removed from making the Flyers. But having said that, overall the future does look good for the Flyers. Some good drafting, development and luck going on there.
