Dolan finally read the owners manual given when he bought the team ...

"how to build a franchise into a winner 101"
OR

" how to build a winning franchise in 5 easy moves"

“And I know we need that one great player who can make a difference. We’ve identified some who might become available, and if they do, we want to be in position where we’re able to get them."

I am a believer in this thought process. Not many teams win the Cup without that guy. You can, but it's just harder.

From comments on prior blog on Lundqvist, here is the exact quote from Brooks’ column:
“We told Hank that if he didn’t want to ride it out through this process, we’d find a good landing place for him,” Dolan said during a conversation at his MSG office. “But he said that he wanted to stay and see it through.”

The key is we’d find a good landing spot. Parsing those words to me means that a landing spot or trade was not already worked out. But that Dolan etc felt that one could be arranged. Therefore, Lundqvist wasn’t told that a trade was in place and all he had to do was agree to it but that if he wasn’t onboard with rebuilding, then the Rangers would accommodate his desire to go elsewhere.

We have debated whether dealing Hank would be wise. But let’s not classify it that a deal was in place and he turned it down. Lundqvist turned down the chance to possibly go elsewhere not a trade already made.

In free agency, there is only 1 and that is Tavares.

As far as the known trade obvious traded candidates, there is only 1 and that is Karlsson.

Dallas is a kind of a mess and Seguin only has one more year left, so maybe he becomes available.

Outside of that, I am not sure. Seems like teams might have a good idea of who potentially become available that we just don't have.

Just wait when he drops to the 8th overall pick and they pass him up. You might go full blown Burton.

I honestly don't know anything other than Dahlin so whoever they pick I will be happy with

I just love watching Tom and Vin go full nuclear sometimes, it's my joy.

Rangers fans are going to have to accept the fact that Hank only wants to play, and retire as a Ranger (at least through the end of his current contract). In addition, he wants no other location than New York to be his residence, and will likely never jump ship to play within a breathing distance away, be it in another of the 5 boroughs, or across the Hudson.

*Note Jan: In your GREAT detailed blog here, you accidentally left out the word, "Captain", following the name, "McDonagh" on the 1st line in the 6th paragraph of that last large box of details.

You know what I am sure of? I am sure that the Rangers are going to offer Tavares something like $12 million per over 7 years if he hits the open market. I am not sure whether he will take it, but the Rangers aren't going to sit that one out if he's available.
