THis could be a very important draft coming up.

I still think they win their series (at least), but Hypothetically speaking, what's the best that pick from Pittsburgh could wind up?

Right now it is slotted at 22. The only way it moves is if a team ranked below them makes the final 4, in which case they slide...If Pit makes the final 4, it will be between 28-31. The best it can move to is 18, and that is if COL, NJ, one of LA/SJ and one of CBJ/PHI are the Conference Finalists.

probably going to be blasted but id like to see Ottawa trades Karlsson , Bobby ryan 50%retained salary 2019 3,4,5 pick
for
Winnipeg Myers, ehlers, and a 2019 first round pick
Myers is a good playmaking defenceman and is right in the age group of our team. While Ehlers is a very promising and productive RW who has playmaking and scoring abilitys and is not a defencive liability while the first recoupes the one they lost to Colorodo .This will also give Ottawa cap room to sign Ehlers and stone plus enough to give a fair contract to dutchy and removes bobby ryan who just cant seem to find his game in Ottawa .
from Winnepeg stand point this gives them a solid 1 2 punch on defence and paring EK with either trouba or Buff would be very solid and Bobby ryan at 50% retained salary would be 2mill plus cheaper then what Ehlers would be though not as young or productive but give the right team and i believe Bobby ryan can flourish again and be a 30g and 50 point guy specially with the playmaking ability winnipeg has and various scoring threats from each line .

I think Duchene is more than slightly better than Turris. I think he is a moderate upgrade.

Otherwise, agree with your analysis!

Probably goes w/o saying, but the result of the draft lottery will have ripple effects too.

If the Sens manage to get the #1 overall and Dahlin, that makes Karlsson a bit more expendable IMO. At that point it may make more sense to get a load of assets for him and potentially save money for a grubby owner.

If they don't, then they better be prepared to sign EK65 longterm, whether they keep him for the entire duration or not. I get the sense the guy really wants to stay, but as always it'll come down to $$$,

That is a TERRIBLE trade from Ottawa's perspective.

Edit - that was supposed to quote roadzy's trade proposal with the jets

The elephant in the room for this team is their defence... which for some reason they persistently regard as a team strength. Karlsson is clearly a big reason for this, but unfortunately he can only ever be 1/2 of the defence pair at any given moment, and even when playing hurt he plays more than almost any defenceman in the league. A lot of expectations are being placed on Chabot, but even if he meets those expectations that still leaves a lot of minutes unaccounted for. Factor in that Karlsson may have already played his last game with the team, and the blue line situation becomes a borderline crisis.

What's the effect of a weak blueline on the team? For one, they completely hung Anderson and Condon out to dry, and that can't be forgotten when considering how to develop a promising young player like Gustavsson. Some people have developed a dislike for Ceci, but consider the fact that in this whole mess he's being expected to play many of the grungier minutes that both Methot and Phaneuf had been playing as established veterans. Meanwhile, the team dropped to giving up the 6th most shots against, having the 5th worst PK, and being 2nd worst in the league in goals against.

The Senators have been fixated on trying to improve their top-6 forwards for years, but I would suggest that's never really been the team's problem. Is it really a coincidence that the most successful season they've had in a decade happened in the only season where both Phaneuf and Methot were both playing significant roles? Or a coincidence that upgrading the offensive ability of their top line centre failed spectacularly in terms of improving the team's performance? Dorion needs to recognize this problem, and come up with better solutions that Claesson, Oduya, and Harpur or else it will be very hard for the 2018/19 season to be the turnaround that everyone is hoping for.

Its Dorions job that really should be questionable at this point. Perhaps he has too much on his plate.Regardless i give him a D grade .

IF I had to rank blame between coach, GM, & Owner it's
1. Owner
2. Coach
3. everyone else outside 4 players
4. GM

Dorion is scouting, being GM, and having to protect his coach who clearly lost his players at some point (mind you there's been massive under performance and adversity off ice)

I think your right about those buyouts..at least i hope so . Its too bad Ryan is 7.5 at 4 even 5 he would be a-ok but it seems we will be with him for a few more years.

Yes Dorion does juggle a lot of things but he should man uo and tell Melynk this is overload and i cant do my job properly. Just like he should have told Boucher midway through the season rest is not a weapon get practicing.
I like Dorio as a person he knows hockey talent but i can no longer accept him as GM. I hope very much he proves me wrong this summer

I understand what your saying. Right now Pierre did kind of sell out.

That said, if your owner isn't doing a good job, the day you come out and say that is the day before you get fired

Perhaps my all time ever NHL favourite quote came from Dorio ---if i hear one more time rest is a weapon.I will go crazy--- that is funny stuff but it does ruin the coach and gm relationship pretty much for ever.
