If the Kings somehow do the impossible and win tonight they have all the momentum, and should win series, if they lose pretty hard to win next 4 out of 5.

The Knights managed to win the other night without "arguably the best defense man in the NHL." In fact, they won 51 other games throughout the season without that or anything even close to it. They don't have a player like Kopitar, either. They haven't used the fact that they don't such players as excuses.

Right now, they're without Perron, their #1LW and 3rd-highest scorer, and Sbisa, one of their better defenders in the first half, but do you see people using those as excuses? Sheng doesn't mention them once in his blog. If you want to imagine the match-up with a fully healthy Kings squad, then imagine it with a fully healthy Knights squad, too.

Good teams overcome injuries and other bad circumstances, like building a team out of everyone else's 8th-best players, and, as Sheng said, find different ways to win. Remember when the Kings didn't make excuses and found different ways to win? If they can't win now unless they're fully healthy and their best players carry them, then they don't deserve to win or have excuses made for them.

Thanks! As I mentioned, I thought the Kings played well, and they did a lot of what they wanted in terms of putting pucks behind VGK's defense. VGK just stepped up defensively. If LA keeps doing that, they can wear down VGK over course of long series...if they can extend it. Obv Doughty suspension will be tough to overcome tonight.

I'm 100% sure I did not say anything to that effect. I thought LA played very well too, esp in first two periods. They just had to loosen up to try to score in the 3rd, and VGK screamed back.

And of course Muzzin is very, very important to the defense. Forbort is decent, but he's replaceable in short term; Muzzin is not. But on the Knights' side, the same goes for Perron.

Anyway, tonight is a different story, for sure. I think Drew is LA's most important player night in, night out.

I actually think NSH & WPG are the class of the West, and I don't think VGK is as good. However, many pundits expected LA to beat VGK; many pundits cited VGK's relatively-poor play over last month. Game 1 was a return to form for the VGK team that I watched before the Deadline. Will it last? I dunno, that's why I wrote "might." If it does last, they can certainly skate their way through LA, ANA or SJS into the conference fgnals.
