I really enjoy Dom's work and think his series breakdowns are very easy to digest while being super informative. Worth the subscription alone.
I feel like this was directed at my poor ass.
But Gunner is right, this stupid playoff format is the result of the NHL trying to copy march madness.
Can't say I'm not a bit surprised that Micah's breakdown gives a slight edge to both Minny over WPG and LAK over LVG. |

By keeping Bergevin we at least get to watch them go down in flames in two languages |

Like I wrote in the last thread, If TO goes out in the first round I could see the NHL suddenly having a change of heart to this stupid format.

Agreed, its going to happen at some point. There wasn't nearly enough concern in 15-16 when the #1 and #2 in the east met in the second round. |

I love that Nashville has been a powerhouse and Montreal has been a burnout since that trade. |

Imagine how good Nashville would be if expansion hadn't of happened and they still had James Neal. |

What are people looking for in a change to the playoff format? No divisions then rank every team 1v8 for seeding? Or is it no conferences and rank every team 1v16?
To do either of those things would require a complete remodel of the league to make it fair. Each team would have to play each other team and equal number of times or some teams will be able to feast on the weak teams (ie the atlantic division).
I'd be for this, I'd rather play each team say 3 times than play the Flyers 6 times a year or whatever it is. But then you have to increase the number of games in a season. Or reduce the number and play each team twice? Owners wont like that loss of revenue.
Is there a suggested format out there that addresses the competition issue? |

Yeah, that half a mil in cap space they have now and Neal's 5 mil price tag... |

The way the NBA does playoffs is probably the best rout. That way you keep conferences and even divisions, which I think is important for rivalries, but you seed the playoffs according to conference standings, not divisional standings. |

I think leaders of each division can be #1 and #2 but after that it just goes 3-8 whoever Is the best that's how it use to be except 3 divisions. |

I must be in the minority and don't care for all the whining being done about what's fair or not. Real champions have to run a gauntlet regardless of how the format is set up. As a kid the playoffs were very clearly...win round one, win your division, win your conference, win the cup. We are as close to that we can get now with so many teams. I miss the time when win your division in the playoffs meant something. |

I don't really care about the playoff matchups. I just think its boosh that every year some teams make it into the playoffs off the virtue that they are in the weak division of their conference. I'd like to see the best of both worlds where you don't completely get rid of conferences/division and the rivalries that go along with them, but the best teams still make the playoffs.
Maybe you just decrease the number of divisional spots and increase the amount of wild cards. Only give the top two teams in a division playoff bids as the top seeds and have the rest be wild cards seeded by record. |

I hate that they're playing the Flyers. I have more bad playoff memories vs them than good ones. Started in 1989. I cried when the Pens lost that series. Its one of my first hockey memories, the elimination game. |

Same went for the Rangers before 2016. Bouncing them was one of the best parts of that Cup. That euphoria I felt after that series is why I'm so excited and nervous for this one. |
