I agree. Q is still an elite coach.
What he lost this year:
1) His elite #1 goalie for half of the season (and replacements were not NHL ready)
2) His HOF RW (Hossa) (and given no replacement)
3) His highest scoring LW (Panarin 74 points)
4) His best stay at home defender (Hjalmarsson a plus 12 in 2016/17 with 5 G)
What he was given:
1) 15 players who were new to the Hawks this year. Most of them new to the NHL and/or North America.
2) A collection of young forwards, defenders and goalies who may be good to great NHL players some year, but it can be argued as to if and when. |

It not one down season .He messed up the lines in the ST.L series ,and was to late by the time he figure it out . He could not adjust his team to even have a sliver of a chance against Preds . Even when they won Cups they always had some crises made worse by Q slow decision making .I hope he has been humbled by this year ,because his ego has been a runaway train since the big contract .. |

Well he might be a good coach, some may say great coach. But there comes a time when the players & team need a new voice telling them what to do. Kane & Crawford saved the Hawks last season, (that was exceptional as I don't think it will happen again) & no one stood up this season. But who knows for next season, 1 thing won't change it seems are the 2 massive contracts. |
