"Something worth mentioning is that the Dumoulin-Letang pairing is the best on the team at limiting high-danger shot attempts so it isn’t like Letang is grossly negligent here. The pros far outweigh the cons even when the goaltending is a paltry .885. "

Best on a team that gives up a ton? Where do we rate in the league for HDCA?

If the bad goal tending is sinking him you'd think he'd try to adapt and take less chances. I know he's the best we have but he has to change his mindset to a more defensive one.

That wouldn't stop him from doing the things he does well, it'd just keep him from being too deep O zone when there's a turnover.

All season they are 27th in the league at HDCA/60, and 26th since Jan. 1st. But since the new year, they are positive (good for 12th in the the league at HDCF%) in the high danger category, generating 1 or 2 more high danger chances per game than the other team, and given the Pens skill, I'll take that.

"You can either dwell on the obvious mistakes that are easy to remember or you can focus on the overall results "

I feel too many people were like that with Maatta during the last playoffs. His overall play was solid but he made two glaring gaffs that lead to big goals against and people were stuck on those two incidents.

Trying to balance this with Letang giving up some egregious turnovers.
Some of those turnovers are so juicy--maybe that's why the save % when he is on ice is so bad.... Still Id rather have a Letang type than a bunch of Ron Hainseys...

This state has bunk ass liquor laws. At least SC where we have the same arbitrary can’t sell liquor and beer in the same place rule, the liquor stores have a conjoining beer store to them. Why can’t your liquor stores just do that you goddamn puritans.

I just think there is a correlation between Letang's mistakes and the goalie' s low on ice save %. If it was just the goal-tender, everyone else would have the same bad on-ice save %. Too much like one of Tanner's "unlucky" arguments.

That's a thing? What does a 6 pack of beer go for there? (Heineken, Becks, Stella for comparison sake)

I was starting to give up on the kid going into this year. Given that phenomenal rookie year I was so dispappointed he wasnt the same player and wasnt quite sure he'd reach those same heights again. Granted illness and injuries took a quite a toll on him, but I'm happy he's finally a reliable option again this year.

As far as Letang goes: Get Ya Turnovers while they're hot!

If Letang doesn't get walked on nearly every single game maybe the goalie's SV% wouldn't be so low when he's on the ice?

I have no clue cus I would never get a six pack of trash beer. May as well get a 24/30 rack and save some money. But anyways the fluctuates place to place. In Indiana or South Carolina I can get a 24 of Miller for like $15/16. In DC they cost like $20.

Random variance is a real thing.

Never in his career has his on ice sv% at 5v5 been below 90 until this season.

All his shots/chances against rates are well within his career norms.

If you want the whole experience get yourself a sixer of Iron City or IC Lite. I think its literally brewed with the pre-treated city sewer water!

He's always been a risk reward player, but anyone can see he's been making more mistakes this year particularly when he's in position and goes for a steal only to get walked.

Not like he's garbage, but this hasn't been his best year and I'm not buying just blaming it on the goalies.

I don't disagree with your main points aboit variance. That happens, and our goalies have struggled particularly at the start of the year. I just disagree that Letang's hasn't been a contributing factor.

I am assuming you are talking about PA. It doesn't have anything to do with being "puritans" and everything to do with the fact that our state is basically run by labor unions and people who will sell their souls if it means making labor unions more powerful. At the time prohibition ended in the 30's the state began running both the distribution and retail sale of wine and spirits, while allowing private retail sale of beer (with its own set of stupid laws, most of which have finally been repealed recently). Thus, the clerks who ring up your purchases at the PLCB stores are unionized employees of the state government. Getting rid of the PLCB system would mean laying off these 5000 or so unionized state employees - something that state Democrats will never do and many state Republicans (at least in the state senate) don't have the balls to do. So we are basically stuck with it forever, or at least until it goes bankrupt (which may actually happen in a few years). Unsurprisingly, the state puts the interests of 5000 unionized state employees ahead of the interests of 8+ million consumers.

There are a few beer distributors near PLCB stores but in general they are rare and always incidental. The PLCB will never intentionally put a store near a beer distributor as that would give the impression of a public monopoly deliberately favoring a related, private business. It would make them look even more corrupt than they already are. In some cases beer distributors/retailers have set up near PLCB stores on their own, though.

In my case I don't drink spirits but do drink wine, especially German-style semi-dry to dry white wines like Gewurztraminer and Riesling. However, I refuse to buy from the PLCB stores for any reason. There are basically three ways around it for wine - buy from an in-state winery (legal), make it yourself (legal), drive out of state and bring it back (technically illegal). I have done all three . I have made huge amounts of my own wine. It is a lot of work but rewarding. I have thought of stacking the cases in the shape of a hand giving the middle finger and sending a picture of it to the PLCB.
