Let JVR walk. Replace him with Tavares. Apparently he plays left wing now.

Do the Leafs even have any bad contracts that they would want taken off the books? Talking about the 2019-2020 season. I guess year 3 of Marleau's $6.75 would be the only one. And that would work out nicely and I believe trading Marleau's cap hit in year 3 was always part of the plan.

Yea way to make fun of logic. cause teams always build from the wing out.

That game was like XBOX on easy setting. Without some great saves it could have been 10-0.

that Habs team (organization really) is a brutal awful mess. i remember seeing a list of all the young guys in the Habs line up last night....it was quite a list of ass balls and pubes.

One of the Leafs' best gambits was when they sent a Rick Dudley mandroid to destroy the Habs from the inside. Like they did later with the Sens and Phaneuf.

Leafs should try to get JVR on a $6M X 5, front loaded contract and use him for next year before the Matthews and Marner contracts get signed. It's always possible that the Cap goes up and the contract isn't so bad, for the next few years and keep him, as long as he is productive. Trading a cap hit of $6 million per, but having a have-not team only paying $3M with real dollars, lets them get to the cap floor and a decent player that can score. You'd think that it would be doable if constructed properly. Maybe they need to get Nylander's contract done quickly, so they can see if the numbers for VanReimsdyk can actually fit?

I feel like they'll try to find a way to make it work. As much forward depth as they have, without JVR they don't have a lot on that side. And he is one of the best net front guys in the league.

5 on 5 i think they'd be fine without him. he's huge on the pp though and it'd probably tank their pp if he left.

i still think he's gone simply due to cap management reasons.

I can't believe the Leafs have an ace goalie, and also one of the best backups in the league, and one of the best goalies in the AHL. This is not real life.

They certainly could use JVR. No question about that. But its his contract that hes likely seeking, but also, the league is getting younger and faster. Do we really want to commit to a soon to be 29 year old long term?

Id rather use his money to find a good 3rd line C or better yet a solid dman and fill his role with Kapanen.

Yeah if he wants to get paid as much as he can they can't do that...it depends on if he'll be flexible because he wants to win...which is wishful thinking on my part.

If they win the Cup this year and then he walks I'd be okay with it.

That wasn't really fair last night....... But I did hear that the Hans were missing top forward, top 4 dman and their starting goalie.

leafs were lucky last year with their health. it's the only reason they made the playoffs. once they start to run into injury issues this year their lack of depth will be exposed.

so i was told

Yeah they were lucky with health last year for sure. This year they've gotten a lot more injuries but it's obvious their depth (that they supposedly lack) that has kept them where they are......

But yeah they lack depth.

Took you a decade of mediocrity to talk big and now look at you acting like the leafs are a (frank)ing dynasty.

At least we will be entering the 7th year of Marc Bergevin’s 5 years plan...oh wait.

That second period was one of the most dominant I've seen them play.

With how Marner has stepped up with AM34 out, the kid looks worthy of a first overall pick if he'd been in other draft years. When Matthews comes back these guys can be peaking at just the right time. This first round could be a (frank)ing classic.
