Former Penguin Ryan Reaves was voted the toughest in the league.

Pretty accurate assessment of Disco Dan too

Isn't tonight's game in Philly?
If not, why are those in Philly worrying about the storm canceling the game?

The game is in Philly tonight. RW doesn’t pay attention to detail when it comes to upcoming games. A lot of games recently his blogs have said “The Penguins play so & so tonight” & the Pens next game is actually the next day or 2 days away. Smh...

He said that Sidney Crosby wasn’t the most talented player in the league. This is a sound byte that is going to get some play. The thing is I don’t disagree.

LIke anyone can even know that, Napoleon.

I don't understand how you can continiously think that+/- is an over-rated and outdated stat? It is so simple, it's basically a win/lose for individuals, all other bullpoop is pushed aside, just did we score or did they score. You put absolutely way to much faith in advanced metrics, that are only created so that people can skew data to fit their narative of which players are "better". And those fun /boring graphs, gimme a break. they're all nonsense.

Meh..... Dan was a pretty awful coach. Routinely got "pantsed" in the playoffs where the best coaches prove their worth.

It doesn’t factor in different types of game situations.

It doesn’t take in to account TOI in comprison to other players. A player who plays 18 to 20 minutes a game is certainly going to have a higher probability of being on the ice for more goals as opposed to a player who plays 6 minutes.

It just doesn’t tell the whole story.

Wasn't that the year he tried to be defensively responsible?

You get a minus for being on the ice for an empty net goal against. Does that help?

They way he worded the first sentence also makes it sound like this is their last meeting in the regular season, period. And March 25th's game is in Pittsburgh, not Philly.

The best was when Shero had to trade Letestu in 2011 so Bylsma would stop playing him night in and night out. I still don't know to this day what Disco Dan's obsession was with average-skilled journeymen.

Yea and Bylsma hated Jokinen and didn't play him with the super team. He hated Sykora too.

That's what I feel with plus minis. It tells you something especially if you have a big number one way or the other. But, it's incomplete. I hate how say goalie save % is used to excuse a bad minus score for Letang while part of the reason it was so bad is he was creating odd man breaks for the other team. It tells something, but thank goodness it isn't the go-to stat anymore for defensive ability.

There isn't one stat that's gonna tell the whole story, it's best to use everything available. It makes me laugh when people say that this stat and that stat doesn't tell the whole story. Just use everything available if stats is your thing. I'm not against stats but generally I don't look at them because it's not my job to evaluate players.

Oleksiak seems to be regressing a bit. He's not been as physical as his first couple weeks here.

Really hope Hagelin didnt hurt his knee.

Exactly. Although, I don't think Dan's downfall was his love of plugs. His downfall was he routinely got out-coached in the playoffs. Anything from personnel usage to strategy to adjustments.

That -35 is actually a pretty good example of why is a bad stat imo.

He scored 51 goals that year.... 24 on the pp and 27 even strength.

To be 0 he'd have been on the ice for 27 goals against at even strength..... he was actually on the ice for 62 even strength goals against in 78 games. Assuming 20 minutes a night he's on the ice for almost 3 goals against per 60 or 1 goal per period every period for the entire season.....

That's not good.... to me it shows being able to pad stats on the pp and being mediocre at even strength.

Cole's departure is a big reason for that IMO. I think he needs a steady stay at home partner.
