Justin Lowe: Deadline Aftermath: Hometown Boys Shipped Out
Mark Kelley is a pretty happy guy this morning. The VP, Amateur Scouting got a few more draft picks to play with in the next couple of drafts. Most notably an additional 1st round pick in June.
Here's the skinny on what happened yesterday as it relates to the Blackhawks:
IN: 2018 - 1st round pick (NAS), 2018 - 4th round pick (NAS), Victor Ejdsell, Conditional 2019 – 5th round pick (BOS)
OUT: Ryan Hartman, 2018 - 5th round pick, Tommy Wingels |

So over the next 6 weeks. We went Nash to lose. IE would prefer they play #2-#3 in Central. the WEST wild card looks weak. Want Boston to win so they get a good pairing and get out of the 1st round. Northeastern is going to make the tournament so we need them to lose in the sweet 16 or elite 8!. Sign Sikura and get to # 7 draft slot and I will be happy with the rest of the season.
Routing for EDM, ISLANDERS,RANGERS(they could be really bad) CAR, PANTHERS,WINGS,HABS,VAN, would love for us to get in the TOP 7. Need to start sitting SEABS and KEITH on back to backs. Also get them both off the PP and PK and see if the young guys can handle it. Actually if we want to tank Keith on the PP and SEABS on the PK makes a lot of sense. |

I think that we will do better than that #7 in the draft. I also will be watching the standings closely but for different reasons than I have in the last 10 years. The aforementioned teams have more games vs each other than we do (thus automatic 2 points for one). Our schedule is tough. It was nice to see Montreal steal 1 point last night. The only issue with some of our tough matches are those against teams which have locked their positions near the end of the season and are resting stars. |

also anybody know why Franson and Rutta did not move? Franson would have some value to a team that is light on NHL depth. IE can keep him in the AHL and bring him on the Playoff roster for insurance Vs injury. If you lose a D or 2 Fran would be a good # 6 option with sheltered mins and PP. thought we could have gotten something for him? Rutta? I would have thought we could have gotten a Kemp like return? I wonder if resigning him is something stan is close to doing? Not a bad bottom paring RD. Maybe 3 years at 5MIL? |

I'm not so sure. I think we are a better team then out record by a little and we traded away 2 4th liners and D man who got scratched for 13 games straight. IE what we traded away is not making us worse this year really compared to a team like RAGS. |

And Green from Detroit. I am sure Detroit would have offered salary retention. Maybe Detroit was asking too much and got caught holding the bag? |

That can be a 50/50 thing. The Rangers could fill their lineup with their acquisitions and kids hungry to show management that they belong and put the team on a roll winning games they do not want to.
On the other hand veterans on a status quo team (whose play has been crappy to start with) are not playing for contracts and spots. There is good reason to believe that the drive may not be there. |

Shocking, that the other teams scouts around the league weren't interested in Franson, Bouma, or Sharps useless asses haha.

That is why non of them should any see any ice time the rest of the way. Time to showcase our kids. We have enough cap space right now to bring up the whole Rockford team. |

EDIT:
Just noticed that Green has a NTC. That probably handcuffed the Wings because I am sure that someone would have claimed him. |

Didn't realize but Green apparently is reported to have a neck injury that may have scared team's away.
I was more surprised to see the Wings move Tatar vs Nyquist. Not sure what interest Gus was drawing but I'm sure Tatar pulled the better package of picks. |

I do not think that we are in quite the same position as the Rangers. They called it quits (for whatever reason), and made it known that they wanted to restock by cutting loose their best players. I could easily see us in the same position next year if we have another disasterous season. The only way we get the haul that the Rangers did, is if we trade someone like Keith, Toews, or Kane; really more than one of them. |

As usual, another great write up. I love getting those draft picks if we aren't going to make the playoffs (and we aren't). Competition with the younger kids on the roster and these draft picks will turn us around as they push one another.
That's just my thoughts...take it or leave it. |

Just read about the neck injury thing. Bad timing for the Wings because they could have gotten a nice return for him.
Regarding Tatar it is even more surprising that an expansion team would offer up all those draft picks for a player. |

I don't have a big understanding of the contracts. My question is will we loose valuable ELC years on some of the kids that may come up or is it worth it to get ice time in the big leagues/ |

I think you can only slide in your teens. so a 22 year old it does not matter. I think in your teens its 10 games or it slides a year. the 2nd part is when you lose waiver status.
