So, is it safe to assume the Pens are out of the Evander Kane rumor mill?

I wouldn't put it past GMJR to acquire Kane.

Question... would you guys do...

Sheary+something else+conditional 1st if Kane resigns?

Ottawa (Melnyk) retaining salary would be like the Pirates (Nutting) doing so...

No chance... ain't gonna happen...

Not a fan of Sheary leaving, or ANYONE on this roster, for that matter. Ok... maybe Hunwick, as Oleksiak appears to have solidified his spot in the top 6.

As long as our D remain healthy.

GO PENS !!

I think if they can move out Hunwick they can fit Brassard because they only have to fit the prorated amount of the 2.7 million difference

That, or flog Kuhn, or Rowney somewhere to close the gap

I have complete and utter faith in GMJR no matter what he decides to do. And so I would imagine they are seriously looking at retaining draft picks moving forward, as opposed to all the picks GMJR and Shero have sent away in recent years.

My gut is still telling me that Plekanec is the Pens next acquisition

He would be sort of a low-profile acquisition... not unlike Sheahan and Oleksiak...

How has Kap been for the Leafs? It didnt seem like he's played many games?

That said, I like the idea of SProng, but if he's still 2-3 years out from being a regular I wouldn't mind moving him for a good 3C.

I'm right there with you, how can you doubt a GM having gone back to back and finding so many players that come to Pittsburgh and re-invent their games. There really isn't a better GM/organization right now and whatever Jimmy does I have complete faith too.

If we don't get Brassard, I think JR will be speed dialing Bergevin for Plek and prolly every other team that loses out.

I might be the only one who doesn't give a (frank) about the TDL and is more excited for the game tonight.

This latest stint with the big club he has shown some promise. Tough to tell if he will ever be an impact NHL player. He has the tools, but has yet to really put it all together.

He is only getting 4th line minutes though. I think he will be given more of a shot when JVR goes, either this deadline, or in the off-season.

... unless he gets traded as part of a deal for a dman

Gotta think of Sheary is the one they move out for cap space then he should bring back a decent asset to be used in a Brassard trade

Brass just doesn’t feel like it’s in the cards. Seems like the Pens need to make too many other things happen.

I love my midget as much as the next guy, but I would do that trade. Problem is a rental winger is just adding to the riches and not really addressing the most pressing need.

I’d re sign anyone before I re signed Kane. To think kanes price is dropping just because “they can’t get a 1st” makes zero sense. There are prospects that equal or are better than a 1st if that’s the case. Notice how there is barely any big talk about gms pushing hard to get the youngest most skilled player available!? Ya there is a reason for that and word gets around after 10 years of his bs. I’d sign JVR for 6 million before I signed Kane to 4 million long term.

I think I'd be cool with it if that conditional meant that there was going to be a legit attempt on the part of Rutherford to resign Kane. With the influx of cheap talent, I've amended my position on Sheary and would like to consolidate cap space for a big ticket forward. Crosby, as usual (ugh) is having a lot of difficulty finding a non-Kunitz or Dupuis player that he likes playing with, and I think Kane would be a fantastic fit. Sheary is currently playing on the fourth line, and will probably be doing so for the remainder of his contract. Not because he's bad, but because our forwards are just that good. He's expendable and should be upgraded if possible.

They could send Simon down too. He's waiver exempt.

I'm pretty ignorant to how the salary cap works, but I thought there was a conversation on here about the cap hit for players is prorated. For instance, capfriendly has Brassard's remaining cap hit of 1.15mil. If that's the case, we could fit him pretty easily.
- madmike71

They could send Simon down. I'm assuming they at least leave room for 13 forwards which is what I went down to. But it's doable. I can't believe Sheary's stock is so low they can't trade him anywhere. I'm more concerned with the cost as I'd prefer not to trade a 1st and Sprong. A 1st and Gustavsson I'd do.

Your absolutely right. I hated the fact he traded Dupres for Lovejoy, but look how well that turned out!

I'd have to see that fully fleshed out, but probably. Sheary has just dropped so far down the dwpth chart for me that as Vic said in another post I wouldn't mind using his cap space elsewhere. I'm not sure that Simon, ZAR, and Sprong are all better than him, but close enough that I'd rather keep the cheaper guys.
