Unless you get dahlen......there are no franchise defining players IMO. Buffalo and Arizona are epically bad, and the habs look like they're right there too. Unless Ottawa loses a few key guys to injury I can't see any way we finish behind any of those 3 team's.......so might as well play well

Ottawa may drop in the standings if they move players like Brassard, Hoffman, Smith, and Oduya, but nobody is guaranteed Dahlin. That said, there's a pretty clear dividing line between the bottom-6 teams and the rest of the league, which should yield at least a top-9 pick to each of those teams. After Dahlin, this draft has Zadina, Tkachuk, Svechnikov, and Wahlstrom available as quality forward options, and Boqvist, Hughes, Bouchard, and Dobson available as quality defence options. Any of those would be a welcome addition to the prospect pool, but none are worth intentionally crashing a season for... especially when trying to persuade the likes of Karlsson and Duchene to sign major contract extensions.
