Injuries or no injuries, minimal games experience or up to a decade's worth of it, these repetitive game after game issues all season long lie on A.V and his bench assistants. The time is RIGHT NOW to replace them all, prior to any MAJOR selling shakeup being made by the deadline in 8 days.
It starts with them being unprepared in too many games from the opening face off, as dictated by the number of times they allow the game's first goal within the first three minutes, & many times on the first shot allowed. Then it carries in being behind the eight ball throughout them.
That also signifies a lack of leadership, and the players not wanting to perform with a 100% effort. Is that due to them having tuned out A.V. & his assistants for good anywhere from mid December & on? If so, he and his assistants should have already been let go from that respectable point. If that's not the case, then what does the coaching staff inform them both at the morning practice & prior to the game? Their words likely include for them to play it "SAFE", and feel the opposition out to capitalize on WAITING for them to make mistakes. Instead, the opposition comes out dictating the game flow and earns the majority of better scoring chances in nearly every game, although at a lesser level even in that 3-0 loss to the Isles Thursday night, despite them registering 50 SOG.
It can't be that nearly all except for Hank, Grabner, Nash, and a few more, including even Jesper Fast, (who tries leading by example to make up for his lower skill level), appear they go through the motions in most games. But one thing is for sure in that they have minimal on ice cohesion, due to this coaching staff still looking for answers after 59 games played. That's a great part why they have scored ONLY 2 GOALS OR FEWER in 28 of them, and in effect, 30 of them when not including their empty netters that were their 3rd goals in two of their wins. Try playing goal behind this team when lost both fully defensively and offensively nearly all season long.

I hope more so that Tampa "will panic a bit after Sat. night" or at least greater so, because Yzerman is still going to be the tougher GM for Gorton to deal with, in getting what he wants from them for at least McDonagh. If Yzerman doesn't panic to some degree, then McDonagh's trade value could lower, unless the Leafs in key will become heavily involved with Boston for McDonagh's services.

if your trading McDonagh you need to hit the HR. this team needs elite talent replacing good 2nd and 3rd line players with younger 2nd and 3rd line ones will do nothing to improve chances for competing for cup and we know Rangers will never be bad enough or lucky enough to win draft lottery. time for this team to acquire some top level talent

I agree, which is why I wouldn't sell him until after the season, either prior to, or during the draft, if not "hitting a HR" with him within 8 days. Gorton has the control now, as opposed to, for one GM, Yzerman in that Callahan situation and the eventual higher price paid in addition to him to acquire Marty St.Louis, who demanded also to only be traded here.
Also, there was word going around, and brought up here first by Jimbo on either Friday or Saturday, that some experts believe the Rangers are seeking young, NHL ready prospects, and established players, instead of upper round picks, likely in part due to the lottery system. But it could also be due to them feeling they can contend next season while Hank is still around, and will also investigate the free agent market this summer.
In the end, if they feel they can re-sign McDonagh for a reasonable amount, they just may do so, by creating more cap space prior to that point, should they not land a big return for him in the trade market.

In not believing EK who has Mrazek at 10% in Rangers interest, with their playoff hopes being very minimal now at best, why not check if becoming available, with Arizona on a return of Raanta as Hank's backup for next season? EK had the Flyers being interested in acquiring him by the deadline to replace the injured Elliott. Pavelec will be a free agent, and we have seen the good and bad with him, with the latter including him again having trouble remaining injury free. Arizona's price may be a little high, should they decide there are better options for them as a #1 goalie than Raanta. But it can't hurt to try, especially if landing first, reputable returns for Nash, Grabner, and McDonagh.

I would ask Bos to swap out the 1st for a prospect. Get someone you have an idea on rather than a 20+ 1st round pick. Carlo Debrusk Donato?

The word in Boston is that Debrusk and McAvoy are untouchables. That may only change on Debrusk, (in regards to them interested in McDonagh), should a key d'man of their's go down with an unfortunate injury, starting with McAvoy himself.
Tampa or Toronto would be the Rangers two best partners in trade return value to acquire McDonagh.
The Rangers wheeling and dealing may begin prior to the deadline, starting right after today's afternoon match up against the Flyers, and through their 3 straight days off from Monday through Wednesday. After which, they will play their last 3 games prior to next Monday's deadline, within 4 days on Thurs., Sat., and Sunday the 25th.
