I have read that the asking price for Brassard is a top prospect, 1st rounder, and a third asset. There is no way that can be right and if it is true I think PD has priced himself out of the market. I like Brassard but I couldn’t see a contender giving up those type of assets. |

He's a legit top six center, and he's on a very good contract. I could see them getting close to that from a contending team.....especially considering he's also under contract next year too.
To be clear, we obviously aren't getting that from a team with a high first, but a playoff team with a pick higher than 15.... ..its feasible |

I would take a second this year , a mid rounder next year and a top end prospect for Brassard. Same for Zach Smith .
Move any or all of Thompson ,Pyatt , Puljaarvi , Oduya ,Di do and Dumbass for futures.
Any opportunity to move a Goalie should be seized upon .
Balance of moves at the Draft or July 1st once we know what pick we have . |

There's no consensus definition about what constitutes a "top prospect". Someone like Gabriel Gagne could easily be classified as a "top prospect", given that he was a 2nd round pick in a strong draft and is playing a scoring line role in the AHL. Also, a "third asset" is totally without context, and could actually mean taking a relatively useless contract in return in order to offset the immediate cap hit.
Regardless, dangling Brassard at this point makes a lot of sense because most of the premium forward talent available are wingers. He's an established centre with good face-off ability, and has proven that he can deliver come playoff time. Personally, I think he still provides valuable insurance against Duchene not re-signing, but if someone wants to pay a premium to add a quality scoring centre at the deadline that's something Dorion has to strongly consider.

i am a pens season tix holder and i was there for the series last yr. the sens were a disciplined, motivated team with good talent all around buying into the coach's system. it was a great series.
with that being said, the teams make up is not that different and the same coach has the same system. what has changed? it cannot simply be puck luck. at the end of the day the sens still have some awesome talent. i thought for sure that last years experience would only make them better this yr. thinking they would be a favorite to contend from the beginning. i dont watch them all of the time but it is a head scratcher for me. |

Id be fine with the Pens spending that for Brassard to be their 3C. |

I think we should trade the following players at this year's deadline with the hope of re-tooling for 2 to 3 years out.
Derick Brassard
Zach Smith
Johnny Oduya
Mike Hoffman - if we can get an elite prospect and a first (like Jordan Kyrou). |

So, does Oduya have any value? Like, even as a rental to solidify a teams bottom pairing? Cause, he's pretty awful, or is he being asked to do too much here.
I'd take a 7th. |

What if Pierre Dorion could get a return similar to what we paid for Duchene? |

I figure that Oduya should be good for a 4th round pick. |

I mean if the deal favors us yes. But we're looking for a goal scorer who has chemistry with Duchene who is young and fast....
We have all that with Hoffman, why get rid of it. |

Dreger is reporting it is Phaneuf and Thompson for Gaborik and Shore. Senators retain 25% of Phaneuf's salary. |

when he plays (not injured), he seems actually still good enough...14p in 29gams...
But haven't seen him this year so don't know how he's playing, foot speed? |

Thompson and Shore, just saving for the Sens? seems like such a lateral, pointless move otherwise. |
