100% AGREE. Enforcers are a thing of the past. To protect the players have stiffer penalties, and be aggressive with suspensions.

Reaves should have been in the blog title since that's what most of this blog was on.....again......

No mention of DeSmith who played really well? People should check out the photo on DK's main page. It's not blocked by the paywall. Cool picture.

Be glad that the Pens only have to play the &*$%ing Ducks and the Kings a couple of times a year. The rest of the Pacific has to put up with their goonery and cheapshot poop for at least four.

I agree that Brown's hit was unnecessary and that a suspension is warranted. Schultz made a bad decision going on his knees face first into the boards like that, but that's still no excuse for the hit. It was a bad decision on Brown's part, but I don't think it was malicious. He'll get 2-3 games.

Can we talk about Geno's spear to Brown's nuts in the 1st period for a minute? That was dirtier than Brown's hit and likewise warrants a suspension. The refs really screwed up missing that one.

meh, wasn't that bad of a hit.

Schultz right back out on the ice no doubt?

Kinda looks like he went to lift stick not looking at Brown, the stick came up and got him and then Geno reached out for puck right after with stick between Brown's legs. This doesnt look like blatant spear ala Crosby to O'Rielly last year IMO.

EDIT: The more I watch this the more I see a bit of embellishment...

I hope they don’t pay you for this garbage Wilson. You are to writing what you think Reaves is to hockey. How can Reaves deter anything that he is not on the ice for? If he jumps off the bench it’s a 10 game suspension. It’s not like Brown planned it in advance. He’s a dumb animal unable to help himself. He’s got a long history of badly hurting players.

The more I read this, the more I see a bit of home-team bias.

This is like me saying that it's Schultz's fault that he got injured because he positioned himself in a vulnerable position, and that Brown shouldn't be suspended because Schultz shouldn't have put himself in that position to begin with.

Actually he missed the rest of the game. Are you close to Ontario? I would happily give you a demonstration where we recreate the events exactly. I’ll play Brown and you can play Shultz. Then we’ll see how bad the hit was.

Any thoughts on the benching of Sprong? We need more guys like him, not less.
Sprong contributes more to this team than Reaves...

Reaves doesnt deter anything. He simply eats roster spots and cap space. HE clearly hasn't deterred anything. I still dont understand why they went away from what worked for 2 straight seasons to return to the stone ages....

Your on point, but this is one of those things that isn't going to change. Rutherford is a fossil. So no point even mentioning the obvious that Reaves doesn't bring much to the table. Let's hope this was the last trade of this kind.

I usually wouldnt get on a team writer because they can choose what they want to write about and bring readers in how they feel but this is different.

Ryan you have a chance to keep repeating your opinion all season or actually do a decent job and write about things we wanna read. Missing a story about a goaltenders 1st career start and pulling out a win and being 1 of the 3 stars is a complete shhiitt job in witing if you ask me. Not only the class Desmith had with his comments after the game in my opinion about Murray deserves mention as well. Pure class by that kid and a great game in his 1st ever NHL start.

If you wanna complain for the last half of the season about it I bet you will lose a lot more readers and people commenting on this blog. We wanna know facts, see highlights from game action, which lines were the best, which trades they could realistically make to be a better team, which players stood out above expected (Desmith) and so on.

Go ask the players if they would rather have Reaves in the lineup on the 4th line or if they would rather call up an AHL player to replace him. I bet you will get the answer you personally dont wanna hear. Ya I dont like the trade for Reaves either but we only traded back about 20 draft spots for him... Youve shown us yourself the percent from pick 31 to pick 51 is less than a 1% chance the player turns out you clown. 1%..... think about that for a bit. Not to mention this trade happened about 6 months ago.... MOVE ON AND GET OVER IT!!!! If you want the team and players to do better start with your writing and information you are writing to us.

I'm not sure Letang escaped unscathed. The way he played last night it looked like his brain was still on the ice in Anaheim.

I agree about it not being that bad of a hit. But Brown shouldn't have fallowed through. Should have just tied him up or something.

RW calling people snowflakes makes me laugh. None of us are hurt or offended by his rants. We're just (frank)ing tired of them. Like you said, there's a lot of things from last nights game he could have written about. He chose to regurgitate the same ideas from his countless other "deterrent blogs". Not offensive, just boring.

Well, the Kings made another Jabroni goalie look like a Vezina candidate... it's kind of what we do.

hey mister "embellishment" guy... let's see you take a shot like that to your junk and then I will stand over you and tell you that you helped it along after you drop on your face gasping for air and wondering what state you are in.

Brown will get suspended, it wasn't a dirty bag maneuver, he was closing, that ballerina fell, then tried to get up again, almost got to his feet and then promptly went to his knees again when he saw the hit coming, he knew he was going to get trucked and Brown could do nothing to stop it, the part that made it a little dodgy for me is when Brown made a crosschecking motion. dumb play all the way around and it was worthy of the attention it got.

anyway congrats on beating the kings in January, you are in the first couple of what will be a large group of teams that face-(frank) us in the month of January. Kudos

"The Dustin Brown hit was the most significant event from last night’s game"

Ryan, do yourself a favour and understand what "projection" is because it gives yourself away saying something of this nature. It is not wrong, I am not saying that, you have a right to write about anything you want, but you are discrediting yourself and potential as a writer focusing on a negative perspective.

A goaltender gets his first start and win......that is pretty important No?...

I can watch a game through a neutral perspective.....can you?....no mention of Malkins pretty wicked pitchfork on Brown either.....

If you want to be taken seriously as a writer, it is best to take off your homer perspective and when something happens to a Pens player, don't get on the defensive.....that is some serious homer-ish perspective writing....stop with the "woe is me" perspective you're just showing your true colours

As someone who can be neutral, that was a pretty wicked pitchfork Malkin did.....and to be honest I wish he would be suspended a game. I love Malkins feisty nature but he walks that fine line and this act went over it from my perspective.

According to Schultz himself, he was fine, and sat out the last few minutes of the game because he was going through the concussion protocol, which he passed.
