Imagine what Brazal would have done with McDavid?

It must suck to be an Oiler fan and see the combo of Eberle and Barzal tearing it up. Those two together with RNH would have surely reduced the sting of losing Taylor Hall.

Barzal looks like he could give McDavid a run for best player in the league. He’s playing limited minutes and putting up big numbers. The speed when he’s circling in the ozone is incredible.
But that’s not to say Oilers would have picked him anyway. The Bruins had 3 straight picks before he went.

Actually this is the second big move that was a total bust.
The first move was his negotiations for Dougue Hamilton. If he hadn’t burned bridges and had even a bit of negotiation ability we would have grabbed Hamilton with those same picks. If we get the Hamilton deal done, then there would never have been an even worse move in Hall for Larsson.

Chiarelli stated multiple times at and around the draft that he relied on his staff for the Reinhart trade.

It was a huge mistake by the organization, absolutely, and while Chiarelli is ultimately responsible I think it's a stretch to blame him solely for the trade.

Also.

It was widely reported the Oilers, as well as many other teams, had no interest in Barzal. While anything is better than Reinhart the obsession of some anti Chiarelli Oiler fans to go on and on about Barzal is just disturbing.

What a Mess

Worst thing you can do is trade picks because those picks become years of cheap players to fill out your roster when your star players are making bank

I try and find solace in the fact that there’s no guarantee we woulda picked barzal anyway.

But yeah, doesn’t matter. Give up 2 high quality assets in a deep draft for a couple seasons of an ahl Defender.

Either way, total slap in the face when u see Barzal is over a ppg and seemingly a sure fire superstar in the making.
