Saros is playing really well lately. I think the stints back and forth in Milwaukee to give him some net time have helped. I think his first couple starts of the season were mostly rust from not playing or seeing many shots in live game action.

Rinne is also having perhaps his best season ever. He was always great with the glove, and playing the puck behind the net, but his weakness was traffic and shots from odd angles at close range. But this year he is handling those much better.

The Preds looked tired and sluggish early, but they got enough push in the 2nd period to put the game away. They have scored 11 goals in 2 games. And quite honestly, they could've had 15 or more if not for some great saves by opposing goaltenders. This offense is scary deep. Even when the Preds don't play their best game, they are going to be hard to beat.

If Ellis makes anywhere near the impact in his return that he did last year in the playoff run, then Preds fans may need to buckle their seats for a fun ride in 2018!!

That was a gem for sure. The Preds did look sluggish, but managed to score some nifty goals. Who needs a ton of shots when you are efficient with the ones you do have and your goalie is playing lights out. The Oil played a good game...Saros was clearly the difference.

Who is the goalie coach for the Preds and how long has he been there? I only ask because Rinne seems to have found his groove and been more consistent the last 2 years.

Mitch Korn was the goalie coach until 2014 at which time we hired Ben Vandercluk(sp?). Peks has had success under both. I think his recent consistency and success is more a result of him putting his injuries and personal problems in the rearview mirror and getting back to enjoying his trade. Both goalie coaches no doubt have helped him, but I don't think it's any one thing the new goalie coach has done. Also, it probably doesn't hurt that for the past two seasons he has been mentoring a younger fellow Fin who pushes him.

Ben was the assistant to Mitch.
